I tried to get into Rush but they're a band I can't really get into. I'll probably try again at some point but I can't really see it happening. A lot of what I've heard just sounds like it's being technical for being technical's sake and to Hell with the actual song.

Rush are the greatest band to have ever existed imo. I was crying when I finally got a chance to see them live a couple of years ago. Not exactly music to drink beers and bang heads to though!
Moving Pictures / Permanant Waves are probably their greatest moment but i'm also a big fan of their 90s period, stuff like Power Windows and Grace Under Pressure. Has anyone got Rush In Rio? For a live album thats immense.

I've seen the drum solo on Rush In Rio and I couldn't believe my eyes or my ears. I still haven't listened to Rush properly though, I realy need to get hold of that 2112 album I think.

I think Rush is one of those bands that you can listen to without really concentrating too hard - almost like Pink Floyd, so if you need something to play while working or as background music, it's brilliant. Tracks like Bravado, Earthshine, Roll the Bones are examples.
I'm not necessarily saying they're the best band on Earth, but I generally find it good background and general chill-out stuff
