As both me and James have said, it's not meant to be a replacement for the forum, so if you want inane banter, go to either the shoutbox or General Chat. If you want meaningful discussion, go to the rest of the forum - pretty simple really, we're not saying you can't talk absolute crap in General Chat and we're not forcing people to use the shoutbox either.

If anything we're encouraging people to talk and integrate more into the site, if people just want to come on and have a quick 2-second conversation then they can do.

Personally I think people are making mountains out of molehills with the whole thing. It seems a simple concept, if you want to use it, use it. If you don't, don't.

Get rid of the now listening to thread, I don't care what anyone else is listening to, and no-one else cares what i'm listening to, and that's the way I likes it.

The shoutbox...Meh, leave it for a bit, see what it does. If indeed it does stop forum banter, be rid of it sharpish.
