In an effort to be more diplomatic/democratic, just wondered what people's opinions are on a few recent tweaks to the forum:
1) The Now Playing thread: does anyone consider the locking of this to be a big deal? Do you really miss it as a worthwhile thread (and not just to gain more posts), or did you rarely read it and post in it and find it a bit redundant?
2) You will notice an instant shoutbox at the bottom of the forum index page. What are people's views on this? Do you think it is a nifty addition which allows instant off topic banter and can be easily ignored, or is it a big problem that will make the forum worse?
Please give reasons as well as voting.

Re: Chat Changes
Don't want the shout box, and though i voted no for listening to thread i am not that worried.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Re: Chat Changes
1) Pointless. No one cares what you're listening to, and I don't see why anyone would want to tell people what they're listening to. It's just a load of people getting their cost count up. I also ever posted in there to say things like "Fuck off Iain".
2) It could go two ways. Either it'll get used as much as the forum, or more. If it gets used more than the forum, get rid of it. I hate the idea of this actually being about thrash and not random bollocks.

Now Playing - I dont care too much for it, i may have posted in it less than 10 times in total.
Shoutbox - it is fine and might as well stay.... for now. Just see how it goes. My opinions are basically same to what Lev has said.

And if it gets too frisky in the Shout Box thing, we could simply call "MSNies!" and make it a big convo on there.

Re: *** Chat Changes ***
The main intended purpose of the shoutbox isn't to take over from the forum, so obviously if it does start to take over then of course we'll remove it.
It's generally just to keep the inane chat like "Who's around, I'm bored" and such off of the main forums. People are still more than entitled to post whatever crap they like in General Chat, but use the shoutbox as a more casual MSN-like area.
As far as the Now Playing thread goes, I personally don't see the harm in keeping it. I hardly ever use it, mainly because my Last.fm banner takes care of telling people what I'm listening to, but it does seem like a bit of a post-whore thread.

No one's forcing you to scroll down to it.

But I'll be out of the loop with in-jokes. It's ridiculous: you go away for two seconds and people have basically typed out War and Peace.

Well jokes on there are only 'in' for about 5 minutes before they're 'out' again it seems. But I can see what other Ian means about it potentially changing the feel of the forum.

Other Ian is needless seeing as we have different spellings. Iain and Ian should suffice.
