Death Metal: How brutal should it be?
Moderators: James, Craig, Resilience Records
I think SBG is fairly overrated.

Early Cannibal Corpse, Death, Diecide and stuff like that is the best.
Gotta love the old school grindcore bands too, like ND, Terrorizer, Brutal Truth, Benediction etc, but this new so called "grindcore" shit is just noisy wank splurts...
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
Always thought of you as a man of taste. Still do... Good work.

What are you talking about, Cannibal Corpse's old & new stuff is supreme death metal, and it's far from being slow...

i wouldn't go that far. It's repetitive and gimmicky.

Haven't heard much death metal I like. I guess I tend to prefer the older rawer bands with a thrashy edge. I don't mind Deicide's Legion though. The guttural vocals that 95% of the bands use today really turn me off and the constant blasting of the brutal bands piss me off to. Just sounds so monotonous.

YAY!
Yeah, exactly how I feel. So many bands have songs that overuse the blast beats. They're ok everynow and then, but alot of death metal bands don't even have riffs any more! It's just drums and drop tunings. Old school wins.

Cannibal Corpse are awesome. I think how heavy Death metal is always relates to the production job. If you listen to Cannibal Corpse's last album it sounds like you're getting hit in the face with a spade. If you compare that to the production job of another supposedly 'brutal' band like Decrepit Birth, it pales in comparison. I hate that band, their drums sound like someone banging chopsticks on a bit of plastic. Utter crap. Shit band name too.
