Yeah, it's just a synonym of 'not very good' although I have heard 'gash' used in both contexts.

yeh a gash gash would probably be a gash with some sort of horrible(read:gash) gash across it.

Gash is a gash word for what you have referred to as a gash. Instead of referring to what you have referred to as a gash, you should say 'fan-dan', or 'goose'.
