I prefer The Four Horseman mainly because Kill 'Em All was such a gateway album for me into thrash in general.

Not even vaguely close. Metallica's version is far superior - better lyrics, better played and a pointer to the great epics that would be present on the next two albums. It may not be as 'thrash' but in terms of heavy metal, Metallica were light years ahead of everyone else between 83-86.

Metallica's version sucks. Mechanix wins, no doubt. Every time I hear Four Horsemen, I always wanna yell "MADE BALLBEARINGS MELT FROM THE HEAT" after the chorus line. Lousy Hetfield... no fucking originality. Anyone can sing about biblical apocalypse, but it takes a certain special someone to write a song about a horny mechanic. Uh, well maybe not, but it's still fucking superior.

I prefer the mechanix by METALLICA. The demo version, it has better production than the megadeth version, and has more of an edge than 4 horsemen, although truth be told, i like all 3 versions!!

Go on Youtube and search:

Metallica - Four Horsemen Seattle 1989

It's basically the Mechanix with Four Horsemen lyrics.
Not as fast as Mechanix though, but still...

Mort - which demo version ? The "Power Metal" demo or "No Life 'Til Leather" ? I haven't listened to them back to back, but I think they're different versions. If I remember rightly the NLTL version is better produced and a bit faster.

Megadeth have always and will always be far, far better than Metallica. Same goes for Mustaine's version of this song...Even though both are technically his song

It used to be easy to find on the internet but the guy that I got it from seems to have taken it down. Let me know if you want it and I'll upload it to megaupload.

The Four Horsemen for me,let's be honest, putting Mechanix on "Killing..." was just the first of Dave's many many "actually did you know I used to be in Metallica" routines.

Not really, as he actually did write the song which i think gave him full reign to use it. As it was his song, that is why metallica were forced to re-write it along with the lyrics to jump in the fire which he also wrote!!!

But why were Metallica "forced to rewrite it",Mustaine gets a writing credit for both songs you mention on the album anyway,as he does for "Metal Militia" and "Ride the lightening" Metallica can do a version of "Peace sells ..." on the next album if they want, they don't have to change the words, just give credit to Dave for writing it.

Metallica weren't forced to re-write it, they just didn't like the lyrics. Mustaine had every right to use the song on KIMB and I think it was shit of Metallica to use it after Mustaine asked them not to.
