Songs About World War One

Going to use em in a lesson, so ideally not too long. Might just use lyrics if need be. Got 'Green Fields of France' (only have Dropkick Murphys' version) and '1916' by Motorhead. Is 'Disposable Heroes' one?

Any others?

There's an unseen fortune under their belts
Are golden temples a symbol of God's way

Don't know about 'DH' but 'One' is based on the Dalton Trumbo book 'Johnny Got His Gun' which is WW1.
'The band Played Waltzing Matilda' by THE POGUES is about Gallipoli.

Bollocks to this!

I don't really see the point in writing songs about events of which you have no life experience. In my experience songs about war seldom come off and, personally, I'd rather read stuff that was written by the people who fought in them or by experts on the subject. Come to think of it, I'm not too keen on lyrics about history, politics and religion because if you scrutinize their content you're bound to come to the conclusion that the person that wrote them is just talking bollocks.

Interesting point Iain, I often agree.

Disposable Heroes is about Vietnam IIRC. Or WW2.

Try Bolt Throwers latest album. Whole thing is about WW1 I think.

I agree and also disagree. I agree because of basically exactly what you said, which is one of the reasons I think the latest Maiden album is bullshit, especially For The Greater Good of God, in which Steve Harris clearly has no idea what he's saying, the lyrics don't even make sense for good's sake, like they're written by a 5 year old. But, on the other hand, if an event is well researched, it can provide inspiration for some interesting music. People get inspired to write music by all sorts of things, and if historical events is one of them, I can't see why one shouldn't write a song about them. Even if they didn't actually experience the event, they can still have feelings on the matter, providing they know what they're talking about. But still, it is a fair point you made.

I don't know any songs though for you Caps. Dawn of Victory by Rhapsody perhaps? The Iron Fist by Firestorm?

Even that song is tripe. The lyrics do little justice to how sick some of the things Joseph Mengele did were. Mind you, I heard that the Nazi's used people to make soap...

I love Slayer lyrics, especially the later ones. They're right stupid.

They certainly are. That whole 'religion is rape oh me goodness!!!11' song on the new album makes me cringe so much. They really don't have a clue what they're saying, they just think all the little boys and girls will run around crying 'HATE! HATE! HATE!' and buy their records so their corporate major label that's probably run by religious people can make lots of money from/for them.

Cheers. Couldn't find the book of 'JGHG', but have seen the film available on amazon at least.
