Regarding the forum becoming a "playground" where nobody likes thrash, I hear it's very similar on other forums, unless there is strict moderation like the Sonata Arctica forum, which therefore is pretty shit! The DragonForce forum suffered a similar fate, where most of the regular members lost interest in the band and got kicks out of harrassing the noobs. Of course, they were constantly asking the same noobish questions like "when's the next album out" or "when are they coming to my town?" which got a bit tiresome. There were even some annoying cunts who tried making discussion about shit bands like My Chemical Romance. One individual got her knickers in a twist after being slagged off for insisting that Lamb of God are the best band ever and as a result hacked the forum. Herman Li, who was admin at the time, decided to shut it down permanently about a couple of years ago as he was aware of our activites.

I'm bored, I should go to bed rather than write an essay on forum activities...

Oh bloody hell, I always read these things and get ready to post a lovely post of reason and nice, and I find that it's all ended and I'm too late. Oh well, I'm going to say it anyway.

Basically, sarcasm doesn't always come across very well in written form, and people take it seriously sometimes when it's not meant that way, but you can't blame them for that. The amount of times me and Jamie have gotten into silly arguments when we used to chat on the net while I was at uni was ridiculous, but at the end of the day we knew it was just because we always took everything we said the wrong way because of the internet and we just laughed about it in real life. I think that's pretty much what's happened here, the thing is, because certain people don't know certain people in real life, all they have is what they read from each other on the internet. Have a look at the new Damnas thread in the gigs section, Donny can call me a Jew and I can call him a Turk (he's Greek which is why that's hilarious, obviously), because we know each other in real life and we both know we're having a right old laugh. But you can't always do that with people you don't know in real life on the internet, because it won't come across the way you mean it to. Hence why some people hate Lev at this point. It's all just got out of hand now, and I think this is why, virtual misunderstandings.

Anyway, Craig, you are right, this place is great, and for me, it has actually literally changed my life. As you say, I hadn't joined Damnas and Mutant when this started, and the fact that I have is basically down to this website, which is amazing. Joining those two bands has change my life so much, even now, in ways that a lot people couldn't really know, and who knows where these bands will go in the future. Basically, this place has given a lot of people a lot of great times, and it's silly to be caught up in all this. As you said, it should be dealt with privately and not spilled out over 8 bloody pages of madness.

Jon is right anyway, I'm not making judgements on personal levels when it is just the internet, I just don't want the forum to be ruined and new members to be scared off, which seems to be an unfortunate trend. From now on I might delete any pointless negativity towards new members and bands, and let's keep the bickering to General Chat (which to be fair it mostly is now).

There's really no need for that. This sort of thing flares up every six months or so and then inexplicably dies down again. I don't think it's a matter of stopping new members from being scared away because that's always been a part of UK Thrash. In my opinion, if you don't get what UK Thrash is about - being silly all the time - then don't bother with it. I mean, using daft words and calling each other cunts all the time is far less silly than actually entertaining the absurd notion that the smattering of Thrash bands across the UK actually constitutes a 'scene'. Fair enough, that's why you set up UK Thrash, but I think this forum is infinitely more worthwhile than the music it's supposed to facilitate.

Which - ultimately - is personal opinion. You don't particularly like thrash, fine. But I think the general point - while not specifically aimed at you - is that to join a themed forum and basically piss about without any (or very little) regard for that theme is pretty stupid - on most forums you would be classed as a troll and banned on-sight.

I'm not that "into" thrash myself (I do have an interest, but nowhere near as much as the majority here) but I was asked by James to help set up and run this place so it's a completely different argument.

As for what does and doesn't constitute a "scene" - that's complete bollocks. Any amount of bands, no matter how small, can constitute a "scene" - although I would argue that UKThrash is more a community than a scene.

I actually think this is the most serious thread to ever manifest itself on this forum. Some nice posts from everyone here

I say just leave it be, if people want to take say, Lev calling Zurab a cheeky mexican (for example ) so seriously, then by all means let them. Their problem, it shouldn't be anyone elses.

For the record, I've never done that. But I like it so I most likely will from now on.

James doesn't like Thrash either. I really don't see what the deal is here. If you banned the people on here who are basically trolls - Dian Wei, Herzeleid, Lev, MartinC and myself - you'd be left with a forum that is as entertaining as Enya. Is that really what you want?
