It's all about looking like a hobo.

I think I win.

Hit the nail on the head.

Personally I don't think someones attitude is directly defined by what they wear. I'd take a wild guess and say it's there personality than choice of clothing...funny that

Sure you can look at someone with long hair and a band t shirt and basically automatically know what music there into etc... but you can't know what there personality is going to be like. I've met plenty of 'scary' looking people who's personilty and character is no reflection on there choice of clothes...and visa versa

they look like a 6th form band forced to play 'metal' by their teacher (who has a mullet and is younger than me).

I cant quite see you guys headlining Wacken next year... it's all good but don't expect anyone to buy it!

thats why its just so funny, it looks as if your mum dresses you, with your latest gap jeans, youre the perfect poster boys. cant you see that half of the point of metal is the attitude? its the whole point of not wanting to fit into a mainstream of fucking gap and Marks and spencer clothing that drives people to lead a bit of an alternative lifestyle, I think its so funny though on more than one occassion you've been completely honest in not wanting to live outside of the mainstream culture, so there's not much to argue about haha, just playing non fashionable music isnt enought to make you lead a different lifestyle, if you're happy living your life jus like everyone else and just make music for the sake of doing something then thats fine, for me, my music represents being something that aims in a different direction to mainstream culture, I like to not buy clothes every fucking weekend, and now, my clothes look dirty and old, its got nothing to do with you thinking that your honest, actually, its because you're completely normal that you look the way you do. you look like indie kids, cos inside, thats really what you represent

If the whole point of metal is the 'attitude' then I'm fine with not being a proper metal band, because the most important thing to me about the band I'm in is the music. It's easy to say we're just being mainstream and that we've got an 'indie' image (whatever that is), but at the end of the day, we don't play with indie bands, we play with metal bands - more often than not extreme metal bands, all of which we look nothing like. If we're a metal band but we look completely different to everyone else in the sub-genre we're in, how are we mainstream?

We do like to buy clothes every other weekend and wear what we think is smart gear, because in the town we grew up in, if you looked like a scruff, you didn't get a girlfriend - it was that simple, and we've just carried on with this mentality ever since. This might seem like a shit reason not to wear a Cannibal Corpse hoodie or whatever, but our whole lives don't revolve around a sub-genre of music - just our music, and our music says we're allowed to wear what we want and sing about what we want.

well said

I see your point, however i still believe half of it (like i said) is rebellion.
It just seems like youre playing music for the hell of music.

and youre a bit lucky in the sense that you have found a platform to say what you want, there are millions like you who play metal with the same attitude.

I think you guys are good, but i cant get passed the fact that if i buy a CD or if i by a ticket to see you, it doesnt really matter to you, cos of this kind of middle class atitude, which i dont really like. The music reflects this anyways, when i listen to it, thats what i hear after reading a bit about you on your myspace.

What really matters is ACTUALLY HAVING the attitude. The attitude is us telling you all when your fucking rubbish, or fucking good. You guys dress with attitude, and act like panzies.

The image is just completely irrelevant. It really is. Image is a personal thing for the most part, and like you say, based on circumstance. Personally I like dark stuff. Dark images, dark music - but does that mean i have to dress like a Goth then? If i could afford things like tattoos that would represent some sort of 'attitude' i'd get them, personal to me, but I cant' I think what you can se is that most indie bands just look like students, and its because they are, and the bottom line is so are we. You're starting to get personal with discussing dress sense, its got nothing to do with the music I listen to/ play. I have blood covere band t shirts in black, sometimes I wear them, sometimes i don't. It's literally whats next outta the drawer.

But yep, it is also about the women. As a bloke, I have needs, and I like to maximise my chances of getting laid.

This is just total crap! Its each persons individual choice how they dress and how they choose to look, and what sort of music they play! It is a fact that metal fans have been stereotyped for years, and i find it quite disapointing that people here are now doing the same!!! If someone wants to wear a cannibal corpse hoodie or a fred perry polo shirt, it doesnt matter. I have met quite a few of you off here now, and some of you dont particually look very stereotypically metal, but i know from what has been said by those people here that they are metal through and through, so that just begs the question, what is the metal look?? I have known people in the past who have got into metal, grown their hair, got the shirts, the studs and the jackets and 2 years later they are into something else. From the music that heretic play, it should be apparent that despite a lot of the crap that martin spouts on here, they are truly metal fans. I mean, if i still had hair, i would have had a big red fuck off mohican by now, just because i've always wanted one, but would that make me any less metal???

yes

(but seriously folks...)

as a fan, watching a band, if i haven't seen/heard them before, the clothes they wear would make me raise a few eyebrows (i have many) but the music is really all that matters.

i remember reading an interview with a band, i think unearth? they're just 3/4 normal blokes just playing metal, and they were the only band on the slayer tour not to get heckled and booed. im sure their whole normal bloke moniker (whether on purpose or not) helped to get the respect off fans that show theyre being true to themselves.
