Manic Street Preachers

Postby Metal Iain on Mon Dec 17, 2007 4:07 am

OK!

So, having not listened to them at all for around three or four years, I decided to dig out my old Manic Street Preachers albums.

THEY ARE UTTER TOSS!

I can just about listen to them if I don't pay a modicum of attention to the lyrics, but it can be hard not hard to.

How I could put up with this when I was 15 I do not know. Well, actually I do: it's just because I was 15 and was a fool.

Anyway, SHIT band.

Thoughts?

I remember enjoying that album with If You Tolerate Your Mum Your Dad will be Next on it, it had Tsunami also. i quite enjoyed that album, a little bit. I haven't really heard enough stuff to fully judge, but I hear their earlier stuff is punkier and nice. I don't know myself though.

Jamie, what I said about the Manics early stuff being punky, I'm sure it was you who told me that. And didn't you tell me it was quite good?

Ok, I thought you did. Fair enough. I don't care about this band anyway, they're boring, I just thought they had nice bits.

First album has loads of great songs on, and James is a killer guitarist with some great tones. Become pretty tedious since Everything Must Go.

First album really really good, second not as good, down hill from there apart from the odd single here and there.

I never liked the stuff with Richey James, apart from Gold Against the Soul which is probably my favourite of theirs.

What I hate is people who rate the Holy Bible and even make allusions to genius. I listened to Revol last night:

Mr. Lenin - awaken the boy
Mr. Stalin - bisexual epoch
Kruschev - self love in his mirrors
Brezhnev - married into group sex
Gorbachev - celibate self importance
Yeltsin - failure is his own impotence

It's the old 'Name Drop Political Titans and Combine Them With Meaningless Rant to Make People Think You Know What You're Talking About' shtick.

Cunts!

I like them because they're unapologetically catchy. I couldn't give a shit about the lyrics, I hardly ever do when I'm listening to songs. Their last song was really good because the bird from the Cardigans sang on it. I'd like to see you cunts get the bird from the Cardigans singing on your tune.

Fuck me the bird from the Cardigans is so hot.

They played Lovefool in the Co-op about two weeks ago and I can't get it out of my head.

They did an album called 'Emmerdale' too and anything in anyway associated to Emmerdale is good.

i think james dean bradfield's guitar playing on the first 2 albums is good, and dont mind his singing on the early stuff. but yeah a large majority of their stuff may as well be by REM.

Except Automatic For the People is in a different league to the majority of bands' stuff, let alone the Manics.
