I've never really understood this viewpoint that seems to abound amongst some people, and is surely only really down to MoP being a more diverse album (and by that dint more interesting than a lot of B-grade thrash albums that people praise around here and that basically rewrite the same song 10 times).
There's PLENTY of thrashing moments on the album, Battery, Damage Inc. Disposable Heroes and large sections of the title track are totally thrashing, and if the album wasn't all that thrashy it was probably to it's advantage.
(I'm not really making a point against the person quoted, because he did say that it's lack of thrashiness was besides the point.)
Ok, I will give MOP another listen when I get the chance as it has been a couple years or so since I last listened.

Wait a second, you're the Administrator of a Thrash Web site and you haven't heard Eternal Nightmare? For fucks sake. Now I've heard everything...
hehe, touche!
being the administrator doesn't make me the worldwide oracle on thrash albums though!

but then again bane, I bet you have never heard any Cyborg Commando!

No, and by the sound of it, I never want to.
Being the Administrator of a Thrash forum doesn't mean you have to be a "worldwide oracle on thrash albums". It would be naive to think otherwise.
But c'mon, I'd at least expect him or her to have at least heard Eternal Nightmare which, most will agree, is a de facto album in Thrash Metal. It's like being the Administrator of a DM forum and never having heard 'Alters of Madness'!
Rather than complain, I'll sort you out with a MegaUpload on Monday. Wait until you get your ears around it.

I am! I always preferred Beyond the Gates to Seven Churches anyway, Phantasm is one of my favourite songs. Don't get me wrong, I love Possessed but I rank Eternal Nightmare very highly.

well I can't say I feel like a failure for not having heard it. I have actually heard a few tracks off it. It sounds like many many other bands. But I'll definitely check it out.
I hardly expect it to touch Seven Churches though Metal Iain

I've never really been able to get "into" Possessed. I have SC and BTG and there are some great moments, but it doesn't really stand out in the same way as Slayer does. Plus some of the riffs are totally weak.

Oh I'm sure you do, I for one can't get it out of my head!

I listened to all of Seven Churches last night, and I am still very much "into" it

Ok so I've listened to Eternal Nightmare now - thanks for the upload Bane.
But I must say Seven Churches pisses all over this, from a great height.
It's one of those albums where everything technically falls into place to make it a great album, but therein lies its downfall. The one word that sums this album up for me is PREDICTABLE. Formulaic, typical American style thrash, especially considering this was by 1988, when all the ideas present on Eternal Nightmare had more or less been done. Towards the end you're just waiting for it to finish.
Yes it's fast, yes it has more frantic chugging than a steam train convention (very proud of that off the cuff analogy btw), but where is the attitude and character of the album? It seems totally sterile to me.
For one, I'm really not a fan of this vocal style - the typical cheesy American style which I find hard to take seriously, although some of the chorus shouts are cool.
There are certainly some highlight riffs and tracks, and moments where you get glimpses of brilliance. Calling in the Coroner is a brutally enjoyable track, as is Serial Killer. But after over half an hour of this thoroughly by-the-book material, I'm left craving something with some identity.
This is definitely not the sort of album I would revisit many times, except maybe the odd song. Where Seven Churches - a full three years earlier - was creating chaotic, morbid sounding prototype death metal with heaps of thrash undercurrent and MEMORABLE songs, Vio-lence are just bashing out an album that, while theoretically excellent, leaves me wanting lots more.
