Prog Britannia

Anyone else watch this? I don't know why I decided to, seeing I've never bothered to listen to any 70s prog, but I'm gonna have to start now. Yes and King Crimson seemed bloody impressive from it, and apart from a bit of jazz wankery I don't think there was anything in there I didn't like. Who'dve guessed that not everything outside of metal sucks?

Once you realise that Prog isn't just about Rick Wakeman sitting atop of a golden mountain wanking onto a minimoog to the sounds of a chorus of angels whilst Ian Anderson cries into a flute made from papaya you make a step into the right direction.

Also Jazz is pretty sexual, it's all about getting past the snobbery.

I'd heartily recommend Captain Beyond's self titled. Still easily one of my total favourites ever ever ever
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

Some excellent prog music out there. I've been a fan since about 1981.

Check out Eloy - great 70's/80's German prog band. For British bands,as well as the old bands like Genesis, Yes and King Crimson, try old Marillion (it's not all Kayleigh and Lavender), IQ, Twelfth Night and Pallas. All part of the new wave of prog that came along in the early 80's.

I see that

I also see the LP sat on my shelf...

70s prog things are lovely, Kingy Crims are bloody great - you gotta check out 'Court of the Crimson King' and 'Lark's Tongues in Aspic'... Camel are amazing if you like the rocky proggy fusiony bits - their first album is totally awesome!!!

If jazz is 'up its own arse' jazz (Eric Lolphy), I don't like it! If it's just some guys writing some crazy tunes and getting their groove on (DJANGO), then its fucking cool by me :)

I have recently gone on a Yes adventure and expanded my collection of enjoyment. I now have The Yes Album, Fragile, Close To The Edge, Tales From Topographic Oceans, Relayer, and Going For The One. I recommend everyone buys all of the those. But I also must point out that Close To The Edge is quite literally almost the best prog album ever made, so anyone getting into their prog who has yet to enjoy Yes, GET THAT ALBUM IMMEDIATELY PLEASE!!!!111

I bought that at a vinyl fair, gave it one listen and haven't played it since. It clearly didn't make much of an impact, but I'm sure I need to give it more time.

You always need to give this stuff more time, there's so much madness you can't possibly comprehend the majesty upon first listen. I got Close To The Edge probably about two years ago, and I only really fully got into it with huge unbelievable joy a few months ago.

Been listening to a lot of Opeth and Diagonal this weekend. Is this show available on the bbc website or something? Also, is the Heavy Metal doc there too? My dad deleted before I could watch the mofo...

There's an unseen fortune under their belts
Are golden temples a symbol of God's way
This horde of wealth is a sickening display"

The heavy metal one is definitely on iPlayer, I'm sure this one is too.
