Apple OS X 10.5 Leopard - anyone got it?

Postby Craig on Fri Oct 26, 2007 11:51 pm

I know quite a few people here run Macs, so is anybody planning to order the new OS? A couple of friends have already got it and installed it, it looks good - I like the revamped look of the new Dock and the PhotoBooth effects are pretty nice :D

I'm just waiting for the LeOSX86 version (Leopard OSX86 - Hackintosh) to be released so I can install it over the top of my OS X Tiger partition (my laptop quad-boots Windows XP, Vista, OS X and Fedora Core 7 Linux), there's instructions on how to patch the retail Leopard DVD on various forums but I'd prefer to get the stable install discs when they're available, the first is due for release tomorrow (27th).

For those who don't know, Leopard is the newest version of the Mac OS - preview trailers are here - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mYmuI4typJA.

Haven't got it yet, will do soon most likely.

The new GUI looks nice and smooth and has some cool features such a quick look and cover flow in the finder...hopefully it's better than the cover flow in itunes.

I generally find OS X easier to use than Windows, there's a lot less playing around to get to the stuff you want, plus it's slicker and nicer looking than Vista will ever be. Vista's too "in your face" with the desktop effects, OS X is more subtle.

And as for how I got OS X running on a PC, read my blog and visit these forums. Hardware compatability is the main downside - I had to play around with different kexts (Apple equivalent of Windows drivers) and system files to get my wired networking and sound operational, and the wireless card and PCMCIA bus still don't work, but I'm hoping that they'll be fixed with Leopard.

Of all 4 of my operating systems on my laptop, I use Fedora Linux the most, purely because I can get almost double the battery life out of it. My desktop would be the same but I haven't had the time to install Linux and OS X didn't like my graphics card, so I just have it dual-booting XP and Vista.

yeh OS X on windows is a lot less stable than windows on an intel mac running OS X, especially with programs like a parallels, crossover and boot camp.
