EM: Who would you say is the band that got you into thrash as an young metalhead?
Nuno: Man, its difficult to pick a defining moment. Maybe the first
time I heard “Metallica” or “Possessed?”, shit! “Possessed” it is!
Neil: “Venom” opened the door, and then “Metallica” kicked the door in! (laughing!)
EM: Do you have a favorite patch on your denim vest?
Nuno: My favourite patch is Snake Pliskin from “Escape From New Yorks” eye patch! (laughing!) on my jacket, I guess it’d be the “Roooaaaaarrrrr” patch from Voivod.
Neil: Easy. The round D.R.I. Skanker patch I got when I saw ‘em on the “Crossover” tour. That’s more than a patch, man, that’s a fuckin’ medal for surviving!
EM: Where the hell did you come up with the chaotic album cover for “Drunk With Power”?
Nuno: The cover represents various aspects of power, and it’s abuse, religious, goverrnmental, corporate and the media. The skull with a nose piercing is there because it’s cool! (laughs).
Neil: I think Nuno’s pretty much said what needs to be said.
EM: Who was/were the first band(s) you performed live with and how did that show go?
Nuno: Man, don’t even ask! The last time we played live was maybe 2 and a half 3 years ago with some local bands whose names are not fuckin’ worth mention!!! A lot of beer has gone under the bridge since then!
Neil: Man the last gig we did worth mention to me was in some dudes front room! That was wild! Couch-diving began that night! Playing live isn’t a priority for us at the moment-were from Slough, plus there is no scene to speak of. A few fans and a couple of cool bands doesn’t make a scene. We’ve had a fuckin’ nightmare trying to find no only a permanent drummer but also a suitable one too.
The guy who helps us out will gladly admit to being an unreliable fuck-head! “Out on Bail” was about him. “Ward 13” should be too, the crazy ass-hole! (laughs).
EM: What is your most metal moment?
Neil: Everyday is a most metal moment for us…
Nuno: Spinal Tap.
EM: Beer, whiskey, or otherwise?
Nuno: beer and toxic waste will do for me.
Neil: I like a nice red wine, but only if the grapes are grown on “Area 51” or near by. Fuck yeahhh! Beer, beer, and more beer! Although I prefer to brush my teeth with vodka.
EM: Where was the most insane pit you’ve ever been a part of? Who was playing (If of course you didn’t start it)?
Neil: pits nowadays are just pits! Back in the old days, no-one gave a fuck about “health and safety”, so stage-diving was the fuckin’ norm, not just a couple of kids who manage to slip the security.
Nuno: He’s right man, back then it was like stepping into a hurricane. “Kreator” during the “Terrible Certainty” tour, was fuckin’ insane mate!
Neil: but the most wild pits I’ve ever seen, or will ever see was at D.R.I.’s on the “Crossover” tour. Swear to you. Tooth, chip and fuckin’ thrash (laughing!).
EM: “Drunk With Power” has extremely raw sound quality. Was that intentional or was that due to your recording equipment, either way it adds to the album’s badass-ity.
Nuno: We use the sound we like. How that sound is made? Is by using whatever shit we’ve got handy! Today every guitar is fuckin’ hi-tech so it no longer sounds real. I deliberately choose cheap gear because to me, for some reason, it sounds right.
Neil: just turn the fuckin’ amp up, mate!!!
EM: You guys appear to be pulling from heavy Wehrmacht and D.R.I. influences. Am I wrong in assuming that they’re your main influences?
Nuno: fuck yeah, that’ll do! Throw in some S.O.D. and I’m happy!
Neil: yeah, I can see why you’ve singled those two bands out, but to be honest there’s a 1000 other bands you could have mentioned. Man, if you took Kurt Brecht (D.R.I.), Bill Crooks (Cryptic Slaughter’s), vocal style, Spike Cassidy’s (D.R.I’s) guitar playing, Blacky from Voivod’s bass style and put Felix Greffin (D.R.I.) on the drums put that shit through the teleporter from the film “The Fly”-maybe Adrenicide would come out the otherside. A bit like our influences, but more fucked up! (laughs)
EM: How exactly is the thrash/punk/hardcore/crossover scene there in Great Britain? Over populated with awesome ass-kickers such as you guys (hopefully)?
Nuno: There are a few good old school style bands coming through, like “Gama Bomb” “Pitiful Reign” and shit. So hopefuly things will change for better.
Neil: I agree. But there’s also to many Nu-Metal kids living a sinking ship and forming Testament rip-off bands, with singers who scream! It’s getting better, though, I am hopeful. Adrenicide will remain whatever happens to any fuckin’ scene, be sure of that.
EM: Any advice to struggling thrash troupes out there?
Nuno: Get a cool band name, a cool logo, white high-tops and a cut-off denim and you’re half way there! (laughs!). seriously, tho-write SONGS. Fuck trying to be a super musician, most of the time, that gets in the way. A million bands have played a million notes and have either been forgotten, or never heard of. The bands that have lasted, or have become legend’s are the bands that wrote SONGS, not the bands who played the most notes. It’s about choruses.
Neil: I agree totally-write the chorus first, then build the song around it. If it doesn’t need a solo-don’t fuckin’ play a solo! Sing with your own voice and don’t disguise it like all bands do these days, or you’ll sound like a fuckin’ drain cover being dragged over concrete! (laughs)
Nuno: Use whatever gear you’ve got. Using an E.S.P. won’t make you a better song writer. Yeah and drink lots of beer…
EM: Do you have anything to add about “Drunk With Power” or anything to say to the E-Metal Review readers?
Nuno: Thanks for the interview and thanks for your support. Adrenicide won’t let you guys fuckin’ down.
Neil: Yeah, thanks for listening to “Drunk With Power” and for being so positive towards it. We really do appreciate it, mate. Take care and “DROWN IN BEER”, Muthas!
EM: Hey, thanks a shit-ton for the chance to interview hardcore thrash masters such as yourselves. Keep it metal!
