Instrumentals can be a good way to show off the band's music potential in their instruments. Especially if the singer also plays an instrument. Gives this person more so than others, their time to shine so to speak.

I believe your words were actually "Instrumentals are for art-fags." :P
Now it could be fair to assume that the vast majority of "art-fags" are "gay", but either way you're wrong :P

Instrumentals kick ass :D :rockdevil:

I once said something to somebody that people who find instrumentals boring are idiots with short attention spans.. i think i also slipped in something about "the mtv generation" but i can't remember my exact words, was a good 2 years ago now at least :)

thats incredably unfair, orion isnt really a thrash track but its still amazingly written, good fun to play too

It's hardly amazingly written, it's just hippy repetitiveness. Like I said, if I wanted to hear a waltz I'd listen to someone who could actually write a good one, e.g. Strauss.

lol

the best CC instrumental is relentless beating from the album vile. gotta learn that

and i stand firm on my opinion of orion; orion is more metal than any strauss composition, if strauss wrote for twin guitar/bass/drums then there might be some debate there, but the only things the two have in common are that theyre both pieces of western music, and orion for a few of minutes uses compound time (debatable as to weather its even 3/4); theres no grounds for comparison of the two.

*deep breath*

ahh
cant believe im actually arguing FOR metallica lol[/b]

It wouldn't be hard for Orion to be more Metal than any Strauss composition seeing as he died around 68 years before Steppenwolf first sang about 'Heavy Metal Thunder'.

My comparison between Orion and Strauss is that they are both waltz-oriented. People regard Cliff Burton as a musical genius for basically writing a very simple waltz, I don't really get that. It'd be like calling Gary Holt or Randy Rhoads musical geniuses for their classical guitar parts when infact the true genius was Bach.

Basically, I hate how criminally over-rated Cliff Burton is.

I think he's overrated too, but don't just slag him because he wrote a 'simple waltz'. As long as it sounds good, who cares how hard it is to play? That's why no one in a Thrash band except me will ever get anywhere because they're too concerned with "LOL SOLOS MUST BE FAST AND RIFFS MUST HAVE A BAZILLION NOTES!!!".

I'm the best.

I love the Metallica instrumentals, Ktulu is fucking awesome, particularly the very last riff, that's what I call heavy! I love Orion, as has been said, it's a brilliant piece of music, well-structured and very melodic. Personally, my favourite Metallica instrumental is probably 'To Live is to Die', that's totally overlooked but a brilliant piece of music. I love the middle section when they used a tinny/radio-like (probably a low-pass filter) sounding guitar for the clean section. Then the volume swells come in, just a beautiful song. I don't care if that does sound gay!!!

I seem to remember Testament doing some pretty awesome instrumental, I can't remember which one off The New Order is was that I liked the most, maybe 'Musical Death'? Can't remember. But they definately wrote some cool shit.

Away from thrash I really like 'For the Love of God' and 'The Attitude Song' by Steve Vai, the last track on 'Seventh Sign' by Yngwie (can't remember the name, 'Spanish Fly' by Van Halen, and I'm sure loads of others will come to me after I've written this.

NV43345 by Billy Sheehan, although that's really a solo I guess, but it rules! 'Midnight' by Joe Satriani is another one, can't think of any more right now.

'Into the Lungs of Hell'! Megadeth! :rockdevil: :rockdevil:

Man, you are on thin ice there!!!!! Cliff was an awesome bass player!!! He was an awsome character and personified the "dont give a fuck" attitude that was part of the early thrash attitude. Have you not listened to Anasthesia??? Have you watched Cliff 'em all??? He had a unique style and played a bass like it had never been played before. It isnt all about technical ability, even though he had that by the ton, but it was his attitude!!!! Man you should really be ashamed for that comment!!!! :(

Sod off!

Cliff was a fucking hippy!

So what if he wrote a waltz? Like I say to anyone who rates Cliff Burton, if you want a waltz listen to Strauss. I mean, Anaesthesia is undoubtedly the gayest track on Kill 'em All and To Live Is To Die almost makes me vomit blood; it really is that boring!

I don't really care about attitude TBH. I'd rather just listen to good music and not have to exude 'Thrash 'til death'-style sentiments all the time.

Bassists should know their fucking role and just play root notes. Dusty Hill, now he is a bassist.
