I have never heard Death Angel in Mutant, I must say!!!

But yeah, Overkill might have been good, but it doesn't change the fact that they're writing really boring music now!!!

And Chest, the difference between new thrash and old thrash is this is NOW!!! We aren't simply 're-hashing' music that we like... and I don't exactly think it's fair on ANY of the bands (who are mainly in 'demo' stages) to compare them to a 3rd or 4th studio album of a well-established band!!! And thrash is hardly getting 'popular' as you put it  and ask anyone if they think they're better than 80s thrash legends... I think you know what the answer will be!!!

Basically, this is not a trend, we aren't doing it to be better than or to re-live the 80s, we aren't doing it to be cool, and hell we ain't doing it for the money!!!! We just fucking love thrash, and that's the music we're making, and why were are here on UK Thrash! So see it from our perspective as 20(ish) year olds who never experienced the 80s thrash thing first hand (all we have is the music), but want to write and play thrash and go to gigs and stuff, you know why? COS IT FUCKING RULES!!!!

Loads of !!!!. Excellent.

those new overkill songs posted in this thread while by no means back are just pretty dull and boring. Don't have any killer riffs that hook you in or anything.
The one with the most albums when you die, wins

Top 5 Bands listened to this week:

Agreed. And PS sounds nowt like VS - although both are damn fine thrash songs.

"Taking Over" is a classic thrash album. For me, the first five or six Overkill albums are excellent. However, the last few have been very repetitive and boring. In fact, I haven't even bothered going to see them the last couple of times out. And they used to be a cracking live band, even if Bobby Gustafson did think he was Hetfield.
I'll give them credit for still keeping their flag flying, but every mediocre release makes people forget a little bit more what a great band they were.
Atom - your homework is to listen to "Feel The Fire" and "Taking Over" non-stop for a couple of days. Then if you still don't like them, fair enough.

Her we go again ;O) From the Dave Ling page.

'And as for OverKill... has there ever been a more facile, generic, empty-headed combo on the face of the planet? And yet Bobby 'Blitz' Ellesworth [and his clueless company] have somehow released more than 20 albums and been signed by Johnny Zazula - the man responsible for discovering Metallica, Anthrax and Testament - not once but twice, most recently for his current label Bodog Music. No wonder the new album is called 'Immortalis'; OverKill are like cockroaches, they just won't sodding well die, more's the pity.'
