The American one was just dire... i mean these new ones are quite ropey. But you've no idea just how bad the american one was.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Yeah, I have seen parts of the American Red Dwarf. You just have to laugh at how unfunny it is. They just can't get to grips with casting a loser like Rimmer. It doesn't compute with the American mentality. You have to give the yanks credit though - even they thought the pilot sucked.

It's almost as bad as the US Dad's Army pilot - "The Rear Guard" - a reworking of the "Don't tell him, Pike" episode.

Conversely, does anyone remember the british version of Married With Children, called Married For Life? It had Russ Abbott in the lead role, which should have set alarm bells ringing but I really wanted to like it. As it happens it was total shit.

He drives off on Listers bike to the android deck that you see in Series 7 to update his software

Where have these been explained? Not in the series itself. Maybe in connected books, or you made a guess, ha ha.

Here's another anomaly - In the first two series Rimmer's belief in aliens is ridiculed. Then, from series 3 onwards aliens pop up left right and centre, without Lister & co. batting an eyelid. The only explanation being that the amount of cash available to the show doubled and they could afford special effect and better stage design. So, it moved from a Sci-Fi based sit-com to a comedic action adventure series (Norman Lovett's words )

Best not to analyse it too much and just enjoy it for what it is.

As for the current episodes - it reminds me of what "Black Adder Back and Forth" did for Black Adder. Not alot really.

I made a guess. The Holly thing is pretty obvious, as they base an entire episode on trying to get Holly back to his original IQ, and the Hilly version being a lot thicker. The Kryten one is my best guess, it sounds fairly good though, dunnit? Explains his disapearance and his new gear when he turns up again. And don't compare Back And Forth to these, Back And Forth was a bloody good effort.

Aye, and when Pete Whatevers Sister asks Lister how long it has been since he's had sex, it's not over three million years, it's about 305 years. As he had sex with the female version of himself. And where did the babies go?

I said it'll stick out like a saw thumb, but I'd rather a sore thumb than no thumb at all. I'm retracting it like a gay man repeatively retracts his shit.

That American Red Dwarf is the worst thing I've ever seen. Fucking hell.

OK, Lev, I researched those questions above and this is what I gleaned from the official Red Dwarf companion book, as endorsed by Grant / Naylor.

The change in appearance of Holly for series III is explained by Holly having changed his face to resemble that of a computer from a parallel universe "with whom he'd once fallen madly in love".

I also found this snippet about Kryten's change of appearance - "After an accident involving Lister's spacebike, Kryten was rebuilt by Lister, with a slightly different appearance and voice". We can only presume, therefore, that he was being rebuilt over the time between Series 2 episode 1 & Series 3 episode 1.

Not as good as mine. And I would have written these new episodes better. They should have hired me.

Cheers for looking them up.

Well, I just saw all three. I wasn't disappointed because i'd heard only shockingly bad things, but it was quite lame. I did get a few laughs out of it though, and the ending was decent.

Yeah, all in all I'd consider watching it before watching Season 8 again. 75% of Season 8 consisted of Lister and Rimmer marching to and from Hollister's office.

Yeah it's not the worst one to exist by far, but it's no where near the glory days.
