Is completely ruined.

We all know Series 7 + 8 weren't as great as the original six, but they did have their great parts. This new episode was just utter bollocks. Two hollograms with no explination, no Holly, magically back from the other reality, Rimmer's a hologram again with no explination, everything being CGI even though they have real scutters. Stupid camera angles and effects that just make it feel retarded, having everyone act insanely stereotyical like they need to prove who they are all over again, despite having shown growing up over the past 8 series. Bloody, rubbish. GRRRR.

It's the 1st of 3 connected episodes. Are you expecting an immediate explanation of all these issues then?

I will only comment on its worth after I have seen all 3 episodes.

He doesn't like Lost so he needs answers to questions as they arise otherwise he loses interest and starts shouting 'rabble rabble!'

It is set 9 years after, maybe thats why everything doesn't follow after 8. They need to make a prequel to explain the plot holes.

I'm sure there'll be the odd, three second callback to events we haven't seen. My bet is that Rimmer died again whilst th'others were still in the other dimension, so they brought him back as a hollogram and Kochanski died of a woman's period.

Then again, there has always been plot-holes and lack of continuity in Red Dwarf.

How comes Hilly suddenly becomes Holly at the start of Series 3? Never explained

Where does Kryten go between Series 2 episode 1 & Series 3 Episode 1? Never explained

In one series Lister has never dated Kochanski, because he couldn't summon up the courage to ask her out. In another he has dated her, but split up with her.

Then again, it's fantasy so it makes up its own rules as it goes along and anything can be explained in one way or another when needs be.

Holly gets an error and loses and ridiculous amount of IQ, and becomes a woman.

He drives off on Listers bike to the android deck that you see in Series 7 to update his software.[/quote]

Yeah, mental.

Second episode was better, but it's completely ruined Red Dwarf. It's like a bloody comic relief special now. I hope it's classed non-canon.

Where have these been explained? Not in the series itself. Maybe in connected books, or you made a guess, ha ha.

Here's another anomaly - In the first two series Rimmer's belief in aliens is ridiculed. Then, from series 3 onwards aliens pop up left right and centre, without Lister & co. batting an eyelid. The only explanation being that the amount of cash available to the show doubled and they could afford special effect and better stage design. So, it moved from a Sci-Fi based sit-com to a comedic action adventure series (Norman Lovett's words )

Best not to analyse it too much and just enjoy it for what it is.

As for the current episodes - it reminds me of what "Black Adder Back and Forth" did for Black Adder. Not alot really.

The second one was completely and utterly terrible, I thought when they were on about finding their characters: "God, if they go to Coronation Street I'll literally eat my hat", and they did so I ate my hat.

How can Legion remove Lister's appendix if he'd had it removed before he even joined Red Dwarf?!

RABBLE RABBLE!

I didn't mind the second episode much. It was completely bereft of humour and was a smear on the Red Dwarf name but I feel the same way about numerous other shows that have been resurrected from the dead or just outlived themselves - American Dad, Family Guy, Futurama, My Name Is Earl, Peep Show, Red Dwarf, South Park and The Simpsons springing to mind immediately. In a way, it's fan-fucking-tastic that Dermot Morgan is dead because it'll be nigh on impossible to bring back Father Ted.

Lev, did you not say something along the lines of you'd rather have shit, new Red Dwarf than no new Red Dwarf at all or am I just on crack? If so, do you wish to retract that statement now>

Word on the street was that there was to be an American version of it. But yeah, very little distresses me more than having to witness something I revere having its reputation tarnished by its own creators, e.g. the new Futuramas. It seems to be happening quite a bit at the moment too.
