Anybody whos watched the news today will see that Russia and America arent looking stable about this whole recent outing Russia have been on. Bush may fight a country for invading another country for oil, yet isnt that what he has already done in Iraq?
In this whole situation Russia are saying they dont want a war, its America youve got to watch, not the Russian lot i think.

Aren't oil prices regulated by OPEC? A war which affects any oil-producing country is going to affect supply and, if demand remains consistent, oil prices will increase as a result. It might just be me but that seems like what has happened. If America set out to 'steal' Iraqi oil - something which they blatantly didn't - then they've made a pig's ear of it.
Russia have been interfering in the affairs of non-Russian, Former-Soviet States pretty much since the USSR folded. Although the most high-profile conflict - that with Chechnya - has been a domestic Russian affair, the Russian Federation has been fucking its neighbours around for years. Whilst oil pipelines and the Black Sea Fleet have been the other fairly high-profile sources of conflict, Russia's complete refusal to accept the reinterpretation of history by independent states is borderline nauseating: whilst it's been deemed OK to tear down Soviet war memorials in the Russian Federation, groups like Nashi stir up shit when non-Russian, Former-Soviet States wish to do likewise.
I hate people spouting the same garbage about America spoiling for another Cold War because it's the exact same garbage that you'll hear from Russia's predominantly state-owned media. For one reason or another - probably because the vast majority of Russian people are complete dickheads - the Russian Government is staunchly opposed to the EU and NATO eating further into its sphere of influence. If Miliband backs down and drops the idea of fast tracking Georgia and Ukraine into the EU - I've no idea if he would like to see them admitted before Croatia and Turkey - then I doubt we'll hear much more about it. According to BBC News the next source of conflict will be Trans-Dniester but, as the only formally communist country left in Eastern Europe, I doubt Moldova will kick up much of a fuss about the whole thing.
As Dian Way said, I can't see it happening really.

Re: New War With Russia?
nah but seriously, the whole war with georgia started when the ossetians started killing our guards at the check points, for about a week all we did was defend ourselves, then we took the people shooting us out and went in to take back our fucking land as they provoked us and claimed they wanted more land, we went in taking our land back (which is ours anyway cause ossetia aint even a real country), russia created a fucking paradox by giving all the ossetians russian citizenship, i dont know how that fucking works, so basically when we went in the russian claims we were going into their territory, also for a country to join nato they must have no territorial problems, in georgias case those are the two regions abhazia and ossetia, russia knew if we took back our land that we would have a much greater chance of joining nato so suddenly without warning they started bombing all our supplies and loads of civilian targets, also another reason they went to war was the fact that they didnt like our country being so close to the west, especially america, stupidly our president said '' hey i got an idea, mabye we will fight with the russian troops and hopefully other countries will come to our aid because russia have commited a war crime'', instead the russian put all their propaganda into the news and other information outlets trying to convince everyone that the georgians went into ossetia and started killing the people mercilessly and that they were killing russian citizens, also russia was boming the capital of ossetia killing loads of their people and then telling the ossetians that georgia were firing those rockets, thats quite funny cause georgia dont have any artilley as it is currently deployed in iraq,( we have th second largest deployment of soldiers there) so basically the russians completely fucked georgia up its tiny asshole for stupid political reasons and killed loads of people both in georgia and in ossetia, after we signed a ceasefire they came into the country taking over the central town and started looting and stealing peoples cars and mobile phones, they also started loads of fires in our forests and now they are saying that the two regions must be independent for peaces sake but the only way they can be independent is if hte georgian government sign for this which we might be forced to, america barely helped us except with some humanitarium support, russias intentions were fucking evil and no wonder they have become very tense with the rest of europe

Re: New War With Russia?
The Russian citizenship thing is pretty amusing to be honest. When the USSR folded there were 25 million ethnic Russians living in the non-Russian, Former-Soviet States. Giving citizenship to 25 million people who don't live in your country but claiming that it is your constitutional duty to protect all Russian citizens is just the definition of being a wide cunt.
The problem with Georgia is that Saakashvili comes off so well on camera that you can't help but conclude he's playing the media. Whilst I do think Saakashvil has done a brilliant job of portraying Georgia as the helpless country being slapped about by it's arsehole brother, Russians are just the biggest pricks ever. I'm not going to say I don't like generalisations but, honestly, Russians are complete knob-ends.
If you don't believe me, see what they do to poor old Wilm Hosenfeld in the closing credits of The Pianist.

Re: New War With Russia?
This whole situation amuses me to no end.
America is basically just having a go at Russia for, hang on a minute, doing what America is doing.
In fact, I don't remember Russia killing 500,000 Georgians for no reason at all. At least Russia had some justification for invading, however slim it may be.

I hope that's an attempt at a Men Behaving Badly quote. You'd get a point if it were.

They had no justification whatsoever. They give Russian Citizenship to people who constitute the Russian minorities of non-Russian, Former-Soviet States solely to gain political influence where they would otherwise have none. Whilst Putin did have a brief foray into repatriation a few years ago, having this stupid pretext of protecting your citizens abroad is ridiculous.
Where is this America killing 500, 000 Georgians thing coming from by the way?

I presume he means iraqis, or vietnamese or nicaraquans, or whoever else Americans have slaughtered in the past.

It was sarcasm to me as i said russia have done basically the same to Georgia as America have done to iraq. Blatently not on the same scale of course.

So he was just being a hippy?
As far as I'm concerned, American can do what it likes. I'm really beyond caring about the War In Iraq as I have no vested interest in it. I just hate to see people implying that the USA is some kind of evil, neo-imperialist bully-boy. I mean, if American hadn't forced everything it thought was good on the rest of the world in the past we wouldn't have McDonald's, Pepsi or Van Halen.
