I understand some modern production ends up sounding too sterile but Destructions last couple of albums have excellent production, its clear but it has bite and edge, thats exactly the way most of the bands in the 80s would have had it if it was available at the time.

I don't have any production snobbery. I really liked Tempo of the Damned, for example, because the sound fitted Exodus' riffing style really well. To me, Destruction's most recent albums haven't had any of the (as Tom said) grit and spark that gave their classic albums such great atmosphere. While production values in the 80s may not have been as great/clean as they are today, albums from that period perversely often seem to have a lot more bite and edge because they sound unique. I think Kreator's last album is a prime example of unsuitable, overclean production. It had some great tracks, but the sound just wasn't right - it sounded too reined in.
Having said that, I don't really think much of a lot of the more recent Destruction material heh!
