Exodus re-recording Bonded By Blood, which isn't nice

James wrote:For me, when it comes to albums it doesn't matter that they are "dated" - of course they are going to sound like a product of their time, but that doesn't make it a bad sound! 70s Priest is "dated", but lots of bands would probably kill to get that warm, natural sound. I don't think the slightly vintage edge of Bonded By Blood makes it a weaker thrash album, in fact it arguably gives it half of its character and thrash vibe!
See: the South Park episode about Raiders of the Lost Ark.
As a guitarist, the only thing that does get to me about older albums sometimes is the guitar tones of yesteryear. Saying that, Bonded By Blood sounds like arse and it's, like, my favourite Thrash album. The fact that every riff on the album is a classic may have helped them, though. The quality of Another Lesson In Violence also makes re-recording Bonded By Blood doubly pointless.

BBB is perfect how it is!!! Those songs are just gonna sound crap re-recorded.. The old production aint exactly bad, and it's how I've known the album forever, to be fair, I just put on Strike of the Beast and I forgot that I actually love the sound, fucking shit idea by Exodus... they will surely be the hellish demon's feast!!!

Was just about to say that.
As i see it BBB and ALIV are the only two Exodus albums that are really really worth owning. Well that and TOTD as i quite liked it really.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.
Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

I was gonna say, I don't think the production on BBB is really that bad either, it adds to the rawness of it. Some old thrash albums suffer massively, BBB is one that I think does not at all...

I think Darkness Descends and Leave Scars suffer the most from bad production out of every thrash album ever

Especially when you consider how good Time Does Not Heal was production-wise.

aye, it's quite a shame really, the songs off DD and LS were better, I mean, THE BURNING OF SODOM is fucking arighaekngaebvahgatd, but its not the easiest thing to listen to, which is sad

Yeah totally, I think some tracks from DD and LS would sound awesome re-recorded, especially The Promise Of Agony and the track, Leave Scars, they would sound CRUSHING with some heavier production.

This thread is now about how Leave Scars needs re-recording.

Re: Exodus re-recording Bonded By Blood, which isn't nice
I'm not sure that matters considering that UK Thrash has given a near-unanimous 'No' on the motion to approve the re-recording of Bonded By Blood. It's going ahead either way. I'm sure if anyone cared enough they could get people to club together to appeal to Gary Holt's sensibilities but I doubt it'd work.
Just visited the Exodus forum to see what he has to say on the matter:
Trying to update an album? Why does that need doing? Did Another Lesson In Violence not already do that?
I think this just implies that he's starting to lose touch with the fans which, in my opinion, is quite significant because he's always been pretty keen to post on the Exodus forum just to keep people informed on what's going on. The majority of times something has happened, the Rick Hunolt affair being a notable example, he's been on there to explain why. I also think his assumption that Exodus fans are going to love a 'new and improved' version of what is basically the equivalent of the Bible to many of them is naive to say the least.

Gary Holt wrote:When you are dealing with a classic I am full aware there will be mixed feelings. And that's cool. In no way are we trying to replace the original, just update it. And the 25th anniversary one, I would like Rick to do all of his solos if he will.
It's going to take time to get all the people to do their tracks, that's for sure.

Gary Holt wrote:... as I said before, not everyone is going to get behind this and I am cool with people differing on their opinions. We are putting this out ourselves and it's something that we have felt strongly about doing. So if someone feels so strongly about Bonded that they feel it shouldn't be fucked with I will take that as nothing but a compliment. But it's not the end of the world, it's a metal record, and most people will fucking love this when they hear it.
