I've decided that at some point before I move to Sheffield in July I'm going to get my hair cut. The only problem I'm having is getting over... the fear.
- i.e. What if I absolutely hate it? It took me years to grow it to the length it is now.
The reason I raise this issue is because I assume there are a lot of people on here with long hair. Have any of you ever thought of getting a hair cut? I need to weigh up the pros and cons.

If you get a haircut, wait till the weather gets hotter, nothing worse than losing hair in the biting cold.

Cold doesn't bother me. I'd just wear a hat if it got that bad.

That's part of the reasons I wanna do it. At gigs all my hair just goes in my mouth and my face and then when I come off stage it's all sweaty/greasy and I can't brush it. Feels horrible.
The thing that I hate the most about having long hair is that you have to put the most effort and take the most care on a hair style that ultimately makes you look like a hobo. The end doesn't justify the means.

I got my hair chopped when I was 18 although it was wasn't all that long. TBH, it was nice to be able to go for a 45 second shower and to talk to good-looking girls again but, on the flip side, it'd harder to get away with dressing like an absolute twat.
I'll no doubt get my hair chopped in the next few years because I'm planning on going into teaching but I know if I did it now I'd be pretty annoyed with myself afterwards.

I always think about getting rid of my locks. I had a shaved head for years before growing it and it was so much easier then. Wake up, go out. Its not all in your face and down your throat and chicks pay way more attention to you when its short.
On the other hand, long hair rules!

that's the spirit.
It's true though, girls hate hair

Well my hair is down to my arse so it'd be quite a big step going from this to really short. I'm really fed up with it though. I don't think I'd have a problem with dressing myself either. I already dress like I should have short hair, my hair just makes me look like a hobo in nice clothes.

Long hair rules up until a point, and I think I've reached that point.

Another valid point. It's been almost a year since I've had a proper girlfriend.

I shaved my hair 2 years ago (was down to my nipples) and I nearly cried
headbanging is a million times more fun with hair,
living is a million times easier with short hair

Hmm, you've summed it up quite well for me there. Thanks.
The way I see it... and it's taken me a long time to figure it out, is that my life is not defined by being in a metal band. I'm a person, so cutting my hair should just be a natural thing and thinking about "What if I don't look cool in the band" or anything like that doesn't come into it.
I JUST WANT TO LIVE
WHY WON'T YOU LET ME LIVE?!??!?!

aye, i grew my hair for a couple of years. Finally got it to a decent length then i got it chopped. Was trying to eat a bowl of pasta and it kept going in my mouth n i thought fuck this and went and got it cut. The first snip when they cut it is the worst. But as folk have said you miss it for gigs.

The worst thing for me me is when i'm looking for something, say under the bed, and i can't see for hair.
