thrashduck summed it up reasonably well above - Mercyful Fate would be so much more bland without the unique, errie and diverse vocals of King Diamond (not to mention the fact that he wrote the lyrics, which are some of the best ever). Of course the songs would still rule, because of the masterful riffs and songwriting, but I honestly can't think of any other vocal style which could replace King's role in the band.
I've said it before, but it always seems to be fanboy's of the conventional greats like Halford, Dio, and Dickinson who have it in for King Diamond. I am a total fanboy of those vocalists too, but I'm not attempting to compare them to King Diamond, as that would miss the point entirely.
And I agree 100% - Melissa is one of the greatest metal albums of all time.

Well the music is very good indeed and I'm actually enjoying Abigail more than Melissa right now, so I still enjoy to listen to it. Who knows, maybe one day I'll suddenly get it. But at the moment, the more I listen to his voice, the more I find it rubbish. But luckily the music's very good enough to keep me listening. I understand the fact that he's unique, but just being unique isn't necessarily a good thing. It's obviously just one of those marmite things!

I'm the biggest halford fanboi on here. Come on, test me.
I think, as a matter of fact, I'll just leave this thread alone. I have nothing constructive to add what so ever.

not liking King Diamond is a crime.

Fucking bollocks mac. 'Save link as' doesn't actually do the same as 'save target as' on the pc when it comes to mp3s (but for some reason it works fine on videos). I hate stupid macs, even though I also like them. Do you know if there's a torrent anywhere of it? I found one this morning but it doesn't work, like perhaps a cunt.

Do you know why this simple difference of opinion upsets you so much? Because deep, deep down inside, you know it's true. King Diamond is a Spastic.

No, its actually because it solidifies the fact that deep deep down inside you haven't got a clue. If you like metal, yet can't "get" king diamond... you must be a spastic.
