Mr. Lich King - exceedingly good thrash

Lich King asked me to do a Top 10 for them.
This was my review on another board (plus a link to the Top 10):-
Really enjoyed doing this one. There have been a few discussions recently regarding the merits of the new era of Thrash Metal Bands.
And then along come Lich King.
And this is a band that knows the art of Riffing.
The Riffs are a mixture of Artillery, Vio-lence, Dark Angel and Exodus.
The first two albums had production issues especially with the recording of the vocals and solos.
But the vocal recording and performance on World Gone Dead are a massive improvement.
Clearly this is a band heading in the right direction and if they keep improving at this rate, the next album could be a real classic.
There are still weaknesses. The solos do need a big improvement. The soloist is clearly no Jason Becker or Marty Friedman. I think the guys need to work on the fluidity of the solos and try and avoid the high pitched 'bridge tone'. Needs to be a much warmer 'neck tone' tone (see Mr Gary Holt for explanation on that one )
For me the solos are just getting in the way of another storming Riff. You should work to your strengths which are the Riffs.
I'm hoping the next album will see a 10 minute Rifferama classic aka 'Deliver Us To Evil'
But the fact a band can pen so many great Riffs in just 3 albums is very promising indeed.
