Well, Megadave's latest got leaked onto the net yesterday apparantley and I stumbled across it on a rather good blog site. I then accidentally clicked the download link and it was on my computer for ever. :eyes:

It's positive. The tracks I'd already heard stuck out, so I guess it'll require a few more listens to fully appreciate it. It is quite similar to TSHF - but somehow manages to be even more political. But so far, so good.

So what.

Oh god, I don't know what to think! One half is awesome, the other half is shit! And what the fuck is up with Amerighanistan? I'm confused, and slightly scared.

Yeh that song really did confuse me. It just seemed like a political rant, and Dave's becoming more and more violent and strange and christian.

the heaviest megadeth album since R.I.P no doubt.

positives:

great lead guitar work-bloody amazing in parts
its quite heavy in a nu-megadeth kinda way
at least it's not risk

negatives:
no track really stands out
fairly repetitive
cheesey (not in agood way) and overproduced
not thrash
Dave's political views on UA and Amerikahstan are highly dubious

Ha! Too drunk atm to give an opinion. Wait till the morrow....
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

This is complete and utter bollocks and shit. The only single thing that is good is the guitar solos. But there's no point in them being good because the songs are shit in the first place. The last song isn't too bad. But what the bloody hell. For good lord. Rubbiiissh!!!

The first track was somewhat promising though far from anything stellar. It then progressively got worse and I stopped listening to it after the 3rd or 4th track.

I thought I'd give it one more go as I was pretty drunk when I made that last post. But bloody hell. I can't bear to listen to more then about 30 seconds of each song. And that goddamn remake of A Tout le Monde... good lord! The second verse/bridge just makes me want to puke. He sings, then she sings, then they both sing together in harmony... its like a fucking disney musical! Jesus bloody christ! It's a typically polished Andy Sneap production, but it's almost too polished - there's just no life anywhere on this thing. I'm sure that's more to do with the actual songs though than the production.

Ultimately it's just a really, really boring album. Pretty much as I expected, but deep down I did hope it would be good. It's Megadeth for fucks sake! Although I suppose they stopped being the real Megadeth a long while ago. Nevermind. At least it makes the last Iron Maiden seem a lot better.

Listening to it for the very first time as I write this, so track by track, my first impressions:

Sleepwalker - A bit rubbish really. Poor choice for an opener. Very bland and repetitive, even nicking the riff from Take no Prisoners around the 3 minute mark.

Washington is Next - Better. That one should have been the album opener. Gret riff but there's no bile in his voice. Where's the mustaine Sneer? Very lacklustre vocals indeed. Decent guitar solo though.

Never Walk Alone - What the fuck was that? So bad it could have been on The World Needs a Hero.

UA - Has Mustaine given up writing original/decent lyrics? One thing has been niggling me throughout the first few tracks and I've just put my finger on it. Better than tracks 1 & 3 but no thanks to the lyrics and the annoying news voiceovers.

Gears of War - The one track I've heard previously. Quality tune that really sounds like Rust in Peace era Megadeth. Mustaine still tries his best to ruin it though with the overly-repetitive "gears of war" refrain.

Blessed are the Dead - Hmm... Starting with the riff to AC/DC's "What's Next to the Moon" is NOT a good start. Again, rubbish lyrics "A great fiery sword"? Oh deary me. Plodding, lifeless drivel. Skip to the next track...

Pray for Death - simple, uninspired riff with a run that sounds like that sounds suspiciously like another RIP track. Getting more and more downhearted with each passing track now.

Tout Le monde - Just one question. Why, exactly? Not rubbish, just utterly pointless.

Amerikhastan - Instantly forgettable. Did he just say "Jihad Joe"? er... Skip on again.

You're Dead - "One day I'll dance on your grave even if you're buried at sea". Er.. ok then, Dave.

Burnt Ice - Finally! Another decent track. Not a classic, but certainly a highlight for this album.
