Overkill have good songs, but I wouldn't go so far as to say any of the albums are all out classics, expecially not The Years Of Decay.. that's not even thrash except 1 songs and half another song!!!

Not really expecting much from the new one either... will listen to it when Agent Steel isn't playing, cos they rule!

they have some good songs , but they were never a brilliant or grounbreaking band, and i doubt many ppl would say their albums were classic, whether they were consistent or not, plus u listed most of their albums there which cannot be possible, because their style changed as they got rid of guitatrists, and went from one guitar to a two guitar more groove orientated band, so therefore they aren't THAT consistent

p.s. u originally said three classic albums :P don't change ur argument on me :P:P

Overkill have plenty of classic albums, as do Testament. The first few overkill ones are bloody awesome! Most 80's thrash bands had silly periods, hopefully Overkill will rectify this.

They were pretty good at Wacken if I recall. The song that was posted however, isn't very inspiring, like the new ones they played in Jarmany.

I'm listening to Devils in the Mist now... sounds pretty cool so far :rockdevil:

Although does anyone else think this sounds a lot like Onslaught? :? In particular the vocals and general (generic? ) riffage.

The riff at 2:46 sounds VERY familiar but I can't think what band or song it is from

I've never really got into Overkill personally, I've got a few albums but they're nothing special in my opinion. I downloaded The Years of Decay the other week after demonic-dave's years of going on about how amazing it is but I didn't think much to it. Only "Elimination" stood out as being memorable, a lot of the stuff sounded like a major Metallica rip-off.. I also seem to recall some overlong rubbishy songs..

Maybe I just need to listen to the album more

nah, that's a pretty fair summary of it I'd say :)

there's the odd moment or 3 of greatness and then not a lot else except slowness and repetition

I like overkill their old stuff wasn't that bad. Wasn't great though. Have bloodletting and killbox 13 and while they aren't bad there nothing special plus they seem to have become more groove orientated than thrash.

Atom, I checked out your band, it's good and fun and all but nothing that wasn't being done TWENTY years ago, and Overkill were doing it 1985. Unfortunately your band sounds more like the Slammers and other UK also-rans that turned up many years later. You even have a song called 'Wreck Your Neck'; Overkill were playing 'Wrecking Crew' with the 'We'll wreck your neck' refrain in 1987! And that's a fucking Awesome tune. I recommend more schooling!!!!

It's shocking you cant respect that (and a few others on here). I wonder how much this thrash thing is just another trend for youngsters. One thing I always had when getting into music was a respect for what went before.

Oh no, you did not!

I personally like Overkill, I see em as a DC band. Some classic stuff but generally solid, likable and consistent.

However, I think anyone can tell you that Tom doesn't need thrash schooling. And... Slammer? Also-rans? Mutant are fucking awesome and they are far from riding on a trend, they helped formulate it.

Still, Mutant don't need me to defend them. Oh and the Overkill song was not really bad. A bit mediocre but not too bad.

There's an unseen fortune under their belts
Are golden temples a symbol of God's way
This horde of wealth is a sickening display"
