Thrash..hmmm

Definately Metallica with Cliff. Most of my favourite thrash bands are still around so its hard to choose. I'll be annoyed if I don't get to see Sabbat.

Saw Metallica with Cliff a couple of times.Sabbat have now been confirmed for the Bloodstock Open Air in August.

no pantera kept metal alive in the mainstream. There was lots of good metal around- it just wasn't popular because of the grunge/alternative crap.

What he said, Pantera a really overrated in my books. Not saying they were shit, just really overrated. Especially since Dime copped it.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

Personally I think they deserve all the hype they had. They've always been my favourite band alongside Anthrax, ever since I heared em before I had pubes. I think it was listening to Pantera that made my pubes grow and turn me into a man... They're just so fucking heavy, and they have such awesome riffs.

Listening to Pantera makes your dick bigger, your beard grows longer, your muscles get bigger, you can punch through solid steel and in some cases, I've seen people levitate and fire laser beams from their eyes.

Shame phil was an ass. He comes out with some bullshit these days. I didn't think too much of the later albums, Cowboys and Vulgar are classic, but apart from that... meh.

What are the albums before Cowboys like? Are they all silly and glammy or are they any good?

I have also seen Pantera live several times, and they were rubbish.
There's no denying their influence... as purveyors of chest-beating thuggery and meathead metal thats spawned masses of mediocre bands and dumb attitudes that exist in metal to this day. Awful.
I killed Reanimator.

I actually love all the pre-CFH albums, the production varies between, well, quite poor and ok (maybe it's cos of the LP rips...), but the songs are typical cheesy hair metal sort of stuff, but it's fucking Pantera!!!! The solos rock too!!!! Power Metal (the first album with Phil) is my fave though, Phils voice is great on that album!!!!

hence nu-metal, metalcore all that macho bullshit 'oh I'm angry, I hate you' metal

I saw Exodus with Baloff (when they toured the US in '97) at the Vic in Chicago. That was the night Body Count supported and all the Chicago cops were protesting the venue because of "Cop Killer". That was a weird night - I thought there was going to be a riot.
Also saw Vio-lence at Milwaukee Metalfest in 2002 and that was well worth waiting 15 years for. Killian was a madman and the whole crowd were going apeshit.

Ones I'd have liked :

Metallica w/Mustaine - saw them with Burton but not Mustaine.
Megadeth w/Kerry King
Crumbsuckers w/Chris Notaro - when I saw them they had a new singer
Blind Illusion w/Lalonde & Claypool
AC/DC w/Bon Scott

this almost calls for a new Pantera thread, don't people reckon? Or can't you handle it?

Perfect summary, good man!

'Walk' is one of the most horrible riffs I have ever heard.
