Addicted to OTC drugs

Interesting article in the Independent today about a dentist with an over the counter drug problem. It explained how many painkillers contain opiates and by popping enough pills a day (up to 60) took the edge off somewhat, however as the major constituent is paracetamol liver damage is a common side effect. Now I really enjoyed my 30 mg co-codamols after I had a hernia op a few years ago but the idea of getting seriously mashed on this type of thing never occurred to me. Thoughts?

Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Mellowed me out a touch, might be completely in my head. But oh well.

I work with someone who kept all her Mother-in-law's drugs after she died. She has stacks of Oral Morphine in the house. I explained just how illegal this was and she was shocked! Of course prescription drugs are a different ball game to OTC.

Ive never really took any other pills other than Paracetamol so i wouldnt know. But i dont want any reason at all to take painkillers haha. You gotta be in pain to get em, and i dont want that.

You haven't got to be in pain at all, just in a Pharmacy.

OTC drugs have never done that much for me. I've been on proper painkillers for long periods of time in the past so paracetamol and so forth don't really seem to do anything, even if I take them with alcohol.

Good painkillers don't just kill pain they kill everything that's grieving you in you and mellow you out. That's why they're so addictive to long term sufferers or people needing a bit of a semi-legal buzz.

I had a fair few of my dads arthritis pill and they put me on my arse!

I used to take codeine a lot because my friend was prescribed them but he didn't want them blah blah....

They do have a very addictive nature blah blah

I agree with Feemo.

Co-Dydramol are lovely, and some stronger ones I had when I broke my leg were amazing. Painkillers are nice because Like Billy said, for me as well they tend to mellow me out. Which is nice because i'm constantly anxious. Don't take them often though, because I can see how it could become a problem
