Don't get me wrong by the way, much respect indeed to Gama Bomb for bestowing upon us this wonderful heavy metal gift, I'm not trying to criticise anyone here. Just know that I'll still buy the real album and enjoy that very much more, and I won't feel like a complete human being until I have it upon my warm bosom.

Anyway, sod all this, let's have some cheese. I can't wait to hear the new album, I hope it's got dual guitar harmonies on it!

You get to hear the album first, you can hear if you like it in its entirity. And then you can buy the album. And even if people download your album and hear it for free, so what? They might come out to your shows, buy a t-shirt and sing along.

It wont kill physical copies. Theres too many real fans of music to let that go. Vinyls still exist... not the way they once did, but people thought they were going to just go, they never did. Theres always going to be fans of music who will support it. At the end of the day, you arent going to make it a job at the level of most UK Thrash bands. If Evile continue the way they are doing im sure they could.

To test their convictions, and for a laugh, I might suggest Earache gives away their next album for free via the internet, it would save us making Cds and Vinyl anyway

I'm with Jon really as I also like to own the release in material form, and I agree that it risks devalueing the arrival of a new album. Dan it's all very well saying people will be able to "hear if they like it" in advance and then buy a copy when it's out, but let's face it most people won't bother/get round to it once they have the whole album to listen to on their computer anyway. This is one reason I never download anymore, because I still haven't got round to getting real copies of many essential albums I downloaded a few years ago.

I can see why Gama Bomb want to do this though, and it probably will be the direction things go in, but also I think it depends what your target audience is: on the one hand there is reaching "as many people as possible" as Philly says in the vid, and on the other there is reaching people you know love the genre and will want a real copy to savour. If you are trying to make it big (and why not) then the first option makes sense, though I would personally be more than content with the second option. But I guess by releasing the CD in January they are covering both bases.

yes indeed, but i think they should release the CD sameday as the download link. but yes! true fans of the genre and band WILL buy the CD. im not afraid that time of CD is ending. more and more and more ppl buy CDs today, ppl have understood that its more fun to own the CD than just mp3 files

I used to try and buy at least as many albums as I downloaded, but I don't really see the point now. It's not like Slayer need me to buy their new album to pay the rent, and it'll probably be crap anyway. Most of the stuff I buy is either from well established bands or ones that have split up/died (Death, for example) that don't need the cash, whereas I could be buying more CDs from smaller bands, like Gama Bomb. Obviously I'm still gonna download it first, I'm not waiting until January to hear it if I'm seeing them in November, but I'll do my best to get a hard copy of the album, or whatever they're selling that Earache doesn't have a slice of.

I have to download music there's too much I like, I cant afford it all haha, I buy as much as I can though. there's nothing better than browsing a store and picking out some cool looking albums and listening to them on a big badass stereo really loud

The internet has given the choice to do what they want either way, legal or not. Most people that buy CD's will never stop and those that don't will never start. There has to be a way where labels and bands get paid for the work they do, the 270 deal & spotify seems to be the closest option at the moment as you could spread the royalties to the 'owners' per play and nobody owns any files.

Where's the fun in that though?

Nothing beats the feeling of unwrapping the clear plastic & blasting it out a couple of times while reading the liner notes, then having the CD on your shelf in pride of place with the others to play for years to come.

Yeah, there's something to be said for that. Getting Altars Of Madness and just sitting in front of my CD player listening to it was absolutely amazing, and it wouldn't have been the same if I'd just clicked on a link, waited for the download to finish then opened a couple of files and had it playing in the background while refreshing Facebook or whatever.

My happiest teenage memories was getting the train home with a bag full of second hand CD's and just reading them in the hope they would be good. I'd even keep them on the shelf for 'the right time'. I'd show you a pictures of my collection but I'm too scared of getting robbed!

^^ i love buying CD, just bought demolition hammer - tortured existance and exodus - FD finally on CD not just mp3 files ^^ and i spent 7 hours listening em and watching the art and etc... love that stuff

you defiantly cant experience the artwork properly until you've got it in print with the CD, although vinyl is even better with a big 12" pic
