The rather excellent band Deadfall often like to finish their sets with a random thrash classic cover (the other night they did Silent Scream by Slayer), something that personally I always think it ends their gigs brilliantly.

However, other people have stated they don't like such covers cropping up in gigs, they eats up time that should be dedicated to original material. What do you guys think?

Yeah, if the song in question isn't a cliché and is played well. I'd like to see someone cover something by Coroner or Exumer or someone like that rather than see a shitty cover of Master of Puppets.

And I think Deadfall are a bit too renowned for doing covers, especially Megadeth and Metallica covers...

If the setlist needs padding out a bit, then covers are OK. We do alright covers of Coma of Souls and A Lesson In Violence in Imprisoned should we need to do that, also working on Disposable Heroes and Masked Jackel (Coroner).

Heh it's a great song and a badass solo, I love playing it. I'm finding it tricky to play and sing at the same time though.

as long as you dont become a band that is known for your cover then i suppose the odd one is ok, but only really if you have to pad out a set

I think covers can be really entertaining, but I agree that I prefer it if they're chosen with a bit of thought.

A cover is a way of paying tribute to influential artists and also providing the crowd with something they know which fits in with your own sound. Covering the same old thrash hits is therefore a bit redundant in my view.

For example, I thought Deceptor did an excellent version of Dark Angel's Merciless Death, which was a refreshing song choice and also got the crowd's attention. I'm all for more bands choosing less predictable covers.

Some tracks I would be keen to cover are Sodom's 'Outbreak of Evil', Venom's 'Witching Hour' or Sarcofago's 'Nightmare'.

i enjoy a good cover at the end of a set, would be nice to hear a greater variation in selection as you say but slayer does usually seem to go down well

Covers aren't a priority in my band but I'm pretty keen on 'Mad Butcher'and'Total Desaster' by Destruction,maybe 'Betrayer' by Kreator as well.
If bands are tempted to do a cover the rules are simple.

PLAY SOMETHING THAT YOU 'LOVE' RATHER THAN WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU!!!IT'S GOTTA COME FROM THE HEART!!!

Covers are ok but allow bands that are known for doing covers at each show. Also, fuck redoing RIB and Metallica and Megadeth covers.

Instead do covers of obscure shit and make it really good and more importantly your own. I have never seen a Destruction cover but my band might be doing Mad Butcher, unless its already been done..

Deceptor covered Merciless Death by DFA recently, that was sick.

I agree on the obscure stuff though. I'd like to see a Razor song covered...

My upcoming (haha) band was gonna do Pleasure to Kill, but we have yet to find a drummer or a bassist and realised a drummer who can play stuff like that will be hard to find once we had a quick look around.
