that's me, Mr. Controversy!!

Mutant sound good but they sound very much like Death Angel's first album from 1987. Go listen to it and tell me which is better. drumming n solos particularly. Twenty Years Ago. Not trying to rain on anyone's parade here, but...

Mutant's Psycho Surgery vs DA's Voracious Souls (very similar)

Come on guys!

And yeah Slammer were an also-ran. they also ran, but ran nowhere. in a race of hundreds they came near the end. I saw em support Pantera in the Marquee and they were great and all but I cant listen to em now, dated and very much bay area/metallica worship/ carbon copy.

I wasn't disputing Slammer being also-rans. I was disputing these two terms being used in reference to Mutant. Sorry, that was my poor prose.

Are golden temples a symbol of God's way

Mutant are, without doubt the best thrash band in the uk. Overkill are in the same zone as flotsam and other bands just trade'in on there past glory's.

Feel the fire is one of the best thrash albums of all time but that was 23 years ago.IMO all there albums since then have been a disapointment. Also the bass player DD is a total asshole "if you like neil young your not a real metal fan"

Absolute bollocks. Just because you're a thrash fan doesn't mean you have to like and respect every band that has 'done it before'.

Bands like Overkill are incredibly stale thrash that just seems to go through the motions. What are they contributing to todays music except for writing sub par albums?

I was gonna let it lie, but since you asked me, and with all the heavy metal love in the world, I'll carry on... :P I was just vouching for their old stuff, up to the 3rd album I would cut off an arm for. and probably up to the 5th.

I don't see (with my ears) ANYTHING the newer bands are doing being any better or different to what was done 20 years ago. All of the riffs, vocals and arrangements are re-hashed from the 1st wave of thrash (mixed with a little knowledge of pantera-era-isms). I could throw early Kreator/Death Angel/Anthrax/Overkill/Flotsam/etc/etc/etc at ANY of these nu-skool thrash bands and they'd be flattened. Thats my opinion. It's great that thrash is getting popular but please don't be under an impression that it's being done better. After a coupla albums maybe everyone'll step up. That'd be awesome.

I don't understand the utter lack of respect for a band that helped raised the flag the first time. but then again I'm not in my early 20's so what do I know? I mean, Overkill's just one band and they've always polarised opinion, but I wonder how many other classic thrash bands get tossed to the side around here?

forgive me but Overkill never let me down and were the last band to suck out of the old skool thrash bands. saw em the Years of Decay and Horrorscope tours and they fucking slayed the place (and a coupla years ago in Dudley)! :rockdevil:

There is always difference, you just have to look for it.

I really don't understand this mentality. As music fans we should be able to criticise and make judgement on bands and acts without taking their reputation into account. Otherwise we might as well just like all bands because theyre 'thrash'.

What the fuck are you on about mate?

I'm talking about Overkill here, don't go fucking dragging my band into this, chatting shit about us because I don't like Overkill. Also, VS sounds nothing like PS.

Also, you said you are vouching for Overkill's old stuff so why are you getting so defensive about me not liking their new stuff? You don't even know me, I do not need schooling in thrash so apologize or fuck off.

Ok cheers but did you not see that I might have been joking when I said "Seriously, I remember my mummy teaching me those riffs when I was just born."?

Fuck it, nice one.
