80s gigs

Postby terrorizer on Fri Feb 02, 2007 3:57 am

A thread for the older thrashers, so who did you see back in the 80s? I didn't make as many as I'd have wanted but saw some classic tours;

Metallica Birmingham 86 (with Cliff), Donington 87 and Birmingham 88.

Anthrax Birmingham, Bristol & Donington 87

Testament Birmingham & Bristol 87

Slayer Nottingham 87 (right down the front)

Xmas On Earth Festival Leeds 87 (Megadeth, Kreator, Nuclear Assault, Cro Mags, Virus... can't think of the rest of the bill) This was my one and only attempt at bootlegging a show, the result was dreadful.

Onslaught Burton upon Trent 86

Napalm Death, Heresy & Doom Coventry 88

Iron Maiden 87

Donington 87 & 88

& some I can't remember...

Unfortunately I was majorly skint whilst at University so didn't see any bands after 88.

Actually I'm wrong, it was 86 and 87. Wasn't 88 the year that that lad was killed?

Pah!

I met a guy the other week at the pub who has seen Kiss 25 times. TWENTY FIVE!

Now that is worthy of ordination the very highest echelons of human existence.

:D

The main '80s gigs I wish I had had the chance to be at were the US Festival (Metal day) and that gig in Moscow with Skid Row unt Ozzy.

I believe so yes. I just know it was Maiden's Seventh Son headlining appearance... an event enshrined in the archaic myths of heavy metal forever.

Excuse me while I go into Werthers Original mode...

Metallica London Lyceum Dec 20th 1984 - my first thrash gig.

Slayer - Marquee london summer 1985 (can't remember date) KILLER!!!

Voivod/Possessed - Hammersmith Palais '86

Anthrax/Onslaught - Hammy Palais may 1986

Kreator/Celtic Frost - Hammy O sometime in 1987 (half empty venue)

Slayer - "Reign In Pain" Tour 1987 Hammy O

others i can't remember the date of - Exodus, Annihilator, Nuclear Assualt, Overkill (with Helloween I think), Crumbsuckers, DRI/Holy Terror/Napalm Death (London 1987 I think), Sabbat (Astoria, infamous night when security and fans clashed and made war), Destruction/Celtic Frost (sadly Frost were onto "Cold Lake by this point...I did meet Tom G and Schmier after the show though), Metallica/Anthrax 1986 (6 days before Cliff died)...loads more.

I may be old, but I've still got long hair and there's no grey in it!!
