While fishing today we were discussing what we thought the best ten albums of all time were, without repeating the same band. As I'd just choose ten Dream Theater albums, obviously. I'd say live albums count. All genres like eh.
I reckon...
Black Sabbath - Heaven And Hell
It was either this or Rainbow Rising. I don't think I need to explain why this is in the top ten.
Dream Theater - Score
As if Dream Theater aren't good enough, they go and put an Orchestra on stage and play their best songs. Yeah, go on then. Fucking, yeah. Best thing ever.
Beautiful South - Welcome To The Beautiful South
I love every album really, but when you go back to their debut you just get a feeling you don't with any other album. It's like the comfort blanket of the Beautiful South albums. Heaton's voice is so nice, so nice.
Michael Jackson - Dangerous
I actually hate half this album, the first half. It's god awful. It should have been two albums really, as the second half is the nicest thing you'll ever hear in your sodding life. Too nice, some say. Lovely boi stuff.
Rush - Moving Pictures
Self explanitry really, generally known as the best prog release ever. So yeah, fair.
Foo Fighters - Skin And Bones
Best acoustic/easy listening performance in the world, ever, of all time, ever. After watching the DVD, I just put it on again. Then got the CD, and listened to it when I couldn't find a DVD player to watch it. I should probably marry Dave Grohl, out of respect for this performance.
Eagles - Hell Freezes Over
Second best acoustic/easy listening performance in the world, ever, of all time, ever. After watching the DVD, I just put it on again. Then got the CD, and listened to it when I couldn't find a DVD player to watch it. I should probably mar....you get the idea. This is the ruinion of The Eagles, and thank fuck they got back together. Their best songs, performed at their best, and you can just feel how shit hot happy they are to be playing them again. Bloody magic warm.
Jordan Rudess - The Road Home
This probably shouldn't count, as only one track is actually Rudess'. It's his version of the songs that made him the player he is today, and bloody hell it's magic. ELP, Genesis, King Crimson etc. Never sounded so good, just, amazing.
Cynic - Traced In Air
It's like cracking open the head of the smartest person who has ever lived, and just sheer mental beauty has fallen out. You don't understand it at all, but you know it's pure bedwetting genius.
Opeth - Watershed
I feel I may be being biased here, as this is the album that got me into Opeth (along with Jonny and Ben and Aaron crywanking) but after listening to all the other albums, I really feel this one is top trumps. I can't get over how superb it is. I imagine the other Opeth fans will disagree with me when I say this is their best, I don't think I've encountered anyone yet that does, so I must be being biased with my 'first album love', but it's just fucking genius.
With strong condenders of...
Rainbow - Rising
Transformers - Official Soundtrack
The majority of Maidens albums
Jeff Scott Soto - Biker Mice From Mars Soundtrack
All the other Dream Theater albums
The first four Toto albums
Star Wars Soundtracks
Top Ten Albums
Moderators: James, Craig, Resilience Records

Re: Top Ten Albums
Waaaaaaaaaaa this is a hard one. It changes probably every day. But I'm fed up of my dissertation and need to distract myself, so...
Oasis - What's The Story Morning Glory
For me this is the archetypal Oasis album. A lot of people cry wank over Definitely Maybe but I think this one is my favourite and definitely in my favourite all time albums because the song-writing on it is just superb. There's not one duff track. I could go on about this all day, but I won't because people who have heard it know what I'm on about.
Dr. Dre - 2001
I got this when it first came out, but I mainly just listened to the singles and didn't really appreciate it fully. Now that I'm a bit older and I like rap/hip-hop much more, I've come to realise that it's one of the most well-rounded and enjoyable rap albums ever. The production is unbelievable and although people slag off Dre's delivery, I think he suits it perfectly, because if it was too complex it would take away from some of the literally amazing beats on this album. Perfection - way better than The Chronic.
Slayer - Reign In Blood
This is the album that turned me into a complete nerd and ruined my teenage years. I already liked metal up until I heard this, but it was the first album where I had to listen to it literally every day (for probably a year or so). I don't even have to talk about how good this is on a thrash forum.
Napalm Death - Smear Campaign
It's hard for me to choose a favourite Napalm Death album, but I think I'll go with Smear Campaign because it's flawless - the production, the song writing, the atmosphere. My favourite thing about it is how every song sounds like it was written with the previous song in mind. It's also been a huge influence on my song writing over the past couple of years. A must have for a metal fan.
Kasabian - Empire
This album confirmed what I had been thinking for a long time - that Kasabian are the most musically aware and talented song writers currently on the planet. I still can't believe human beings wrote this album.
The Sounds - Dying To Say This To You
In my opinion, the best pop album ever. It changed my opinion on a lot of things.
Recent ones that I'll probably change my mind about:
Krezip - Plug It In
It's nothing ground breaking, but it's just as good as The Sound's album, which I think warrants a place in my list.
Metric - Grow Up and Blow Away
Don't know how to describe this one. It's just really great and the singer has the sexiest voice ever.
I can't do any more.

Re: Top Ten Albums
Not saying they're the best ten albums of all time, but they're probably my favourite ten albums ever:
Boston - Boston
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Kiss - Dressed To Kill
Megadeth - Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?!
Pearl Jam - Ten
R.E.M. - Automatic For the People
Radiohead - The Bends
Skid Row - Slave To the Grind
The Eagles - One of These Nights
Whitesnake - 1987
I'd say that's a fairly accurate cross-section of the albums I've rated most highly over the past 10 years or so.
