Should I Buy A PS3?

Postby Metal Iain on Fri Dec 26, 2008 5:09 pm

Ok, so I'm really, really, really bored at the moment and am not as badly in debt as I was recently due to being in full-time employment and so forth. I did plan on buying a Les Paul or something but can't really be be ringed with that because I'm too knackered to play guitar half the time these days. A PS3 seems like a more prudent investment than a £2, 000 guitar that I'll rarely play, to be honest.

One of my brothers has an Xbox and a Wii. I like the Xbox but would rather get a PS3 just so we don't have two Xboxes in adjoining rooms. I really haven't been impressed with Wiis to be honest. The initial novelty wore off after about 10 minutes. One of my other brothers (lives in Engerland) had a PS3 and I thought it was pretty tits when I played it. However, mates etc have warned me against buying a PS3 because there are allegedly fuck-all games on it at the moment. That and they still seem a bit pricey.

In terms of games, I completed GTA on the Xbox a couple of times when it came out but would probably get it for the PS3 if I bought one because it was shit-hot. I wouldn't mind getting Call of Duty IV and the new Tombraider either.

So, what's the verdict?

Get a PS3 and have something to do between getting sloshed and work or pay off my credit card a month early?

If you can, pickup an 80GB PS3 on eBay.

Backwards compatible with alot of PS1 and PS2 games, Die Hard Trilogy for the win!

So not only do you get to play MG4 on PS3 but you get to play Destruction Derby 2.

Looking into it just now. I might just say 'fuck it' and get an Xbox. Way cheaper and I can pimp games off my brother.

My brother has a PS3, but there don't seem to be that many good-sounding games that I want him to buy for it. At the moment he just plays Fifa 09 and a few shooters like Rainbow Six, so if it was me I wouldn't be too bothered about owning one myself.

I can't see myself playing many sports games that aren't Madden games, seeing as there are no rugby ones out on either at the moment. I reckon I'm just going to shoot into Game tomorrow and see if I can get a 360 and buy some games. That way I'll probably spend less than £200, which seems an unlikely prospect in the PS3 market.

I need to get another new MP3 player as well as I drunkenly lost the one I just bought.

I've got a PS3 but all I ever play is little big planet. There isn't a lot of good games for it. The new ones don't do PS2 compatibility either. Get a 360.

There are actually some really good games on the PS3, and some good ones coming out, if you are actually into proper games and don't just want to play PES and Guitar Hero. For example, Metal Gear 4 (obviously), Devil May Cry 4, Little Big Planet, probably the new Tomb Raider, GTA4, and I imagine there are some decent First Person Shooters like Call of Duty and Resistance and all that, that I haven't played yet. And soon Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter 4 are out, and God of War 3 will be the fucking nuts, but the best thing ever will be whatever Team Ico come out with. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus were two of the most amazingly original and unbelievable games on the PS2, and whatever they come up with for the PS3 is sure to be even more amazing, whatever it is, and it'll be a PS3 exclusive so that's nice. And of course you have Tekken. And Blu-Ray. And Final Fantasy. Although 13 looks a bit dodgy... And also, you don't need to pay to go online like you do with X Box.

Basically, just like PS2, it won't start off having the best games around (although some of them are amazing already), but it will grow to be the king of this generation of consoles.

well why not get 70 odd games or all of the entire n64 games ever made. hours of joy and fun.

or failing that, how about a sega saturn with 100 games and youd still have a few hundred quid left over.

Because I tire of nostalgia very easily and wouldn't mind playing some games that I didn't complete when I was 12.

SEEEEGA DREAMCAST!

My brother (different one from the two mentioned first post) had a Gamecube. Now they were fucking shite. We never had a Dreamcast or a Saturn. I'm not sure I really missed out on much there, to be honest.
