What are your views on BURZUM? I think the first 3 albums are among the best recorded works ever, and i was hoping he would stay true to his word and start the band again when he was released, however this week, varg has been denied parole again. Here is a statement about his most recent failed application:
Varg Denied Parole
Convicted Murderer VARG VIKERNES Once Again Denied Parole - June 11, 2008
Varg Vikernes (a.k.a. Count Grishnackh) — the former BURZUM mastermind who is currently serving a 21-year Norwegian prison term for the August 1993 murder of MAYHEM guitarist Oystein Aarseth (a.k.a. Euronymous) — has been denied parole by the Norwegian Ministry of Justice after it was determined that he was "too dangerous" to be released into the general public. According to the Norwegian newspaper VG, Varg's case workers fear that he won't be able to handle life outside prison and they want better measures to insure that he will be able to cope with normal living conditions once he's released.
"I don't understand this," the 35-year-old Varg Vikernes told VG. "They want me to have an arrangement with NVA (The Norwegian Labour and Welfare Service) so they can sort everything out for me, but I don't need that. Do I have to become a welfare case to be released? I have a house, a job and a family that awaits me."
Vikernes — who is married, with one daughter (aged 15) and a son (aged nine months) — has served two-thirds of his sentence. His third application for parole has just been denied. The message from the authorities is clear: Varg Vikernes should not be released from prison. In denying his parole, the Ministry of Justice pointed to the fact that Vikernes escaped from prison in 2003 and has ties to neo-Nazi groups.
"I haven't had any contact with those groups in a very long time. The Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) is well aware of this," claims Vikernes.
Varg is free to apply for parole again within a year.
so burzum, yea or nay?

Re: Burzum
I like the music, though the whole "legend" around him is stupid and been discussed to death. Øystein wasn't the nicest person in the world he was like the left wing version of Varg, also apparently stabbed someone with a broken bottle...no he shouldn't of been killed but both them were as bad as each other.
Also Varg should do his time (which is ALOT less in Norway than anywhere else for murder) and when he is finally release go in obscurity like he claimed he would.

yeah definately. Det som engang var and the self titled debut are both wonderous masterpieces of melancholic, etherial, haunting darkness, yet also heavy, disturbing and full of monster riffs. The thing that may put you off are the vocals, but i think they fit the music perfectly. They / he was pretty unique back then, and still is today. It is a far cry from the shredding ultra-speed of dark throne, immortal and emperor of the same era, being more slow / mid-paced and based on melodic riffs with an eerie feel and very solid structure. Like many raving lunatics, he is / was a genius.

I do like them, i wouldn't say they are my absolute favourites but there are some total classics in there.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

I used to listen to a bit of Burzum, the early stuff isn't bad. The track LOST WISDOM is fucking GREAT! That riff...
Anyway, I think Varg, and anyone else that believes what he does is a total prick.

I have yet to hear anything recorded with an actual studio, and not a £24.99 kareoke system from Argos. Until then, it sounds shite.

I've got the first three albums,(the release that Misanthropy put out back in the 90's) but to be honest I haven't played them for awhile, and was thinking about sticking them on ebay.Having said that,Det Som Engang Var has got some great riffs on it.

I hate black metal at it is, but I particularly can't stand Burzum. It's too offensive - literally the most annoying/obnoxious music ever created.
