The first cut is the deepest!

Postby terrorizer on Sat May 09, 2009 1:04 pm

Who can think of bands who did cracking first albums and never came close again? The most obvious choice being Exodus, but what about Angel Dust, Death, Exhorder, Flotsam & Jetsam, Helloween, Possessed and Vio-lence?

Their stars burned brightly early on and faded soon after. Some took the hint and split up, others still persist to this day and need putting down like a half blind arthritic pet. Name 'em!

Annihilator - Alice... is a fucking sick first album, NNL is good too but not as classic.
Dark Angel - As much as I like LS and TDNH, DD is the fucking best, ignoring WHA also.
Morbid Angel - Hate to say it but they never came close to matching AOM.

Yesh.

Never get high off your own supply! Truth is I'm an old school Death fan, SBG is a five star classic, Lep is pretty good and the rest... never did that much for me. I knew I get a bite from putting that though.

I'm a massive Death fan & I don't even own SBG, unlistenable

Angel witch & Armoured saint are two bands I can think of i've got into of late, can't seem to like the older stuff.

I think it sounds beautiful. The vinyl ive got of it is top, has an extra vinyl of two leprosy songs played live before the album was recorded so theres a few little different things in them. I love it.

Not quite old enough to be old school Kev? Being a really old bastard I heard them a few years before they got signed, always prefered them as Death and not Technical Metal or whatever it was they developed in to.

I think of Testament immediately

The Legacy is one of my very favorite
I think The New Order is Great too but not as intense and dark

and after these two albums, they just lost it.

Practice What You Preach is BORING for me
The Gathering got so much hype but I don't think it's great,
couple good thrasher, with many slow drag songs like back in "The Ritual" era.

still wanna get Souls Of Black anyway.....

Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Well i would say the only other good Exodus albums are Another Lesson in Violence, and Tempo Of The Dammed.
