What Equipment do you need to play live?

Postby origamikid on Fri Mar 20, 2009 11:33 pm

Sup, question for all the gigging bands or people who have played live before--- what exactly would i need to play live? Obv an instrument hahaha very funny but i meen in the form of an AMP??

Cause atm i only have a Randal 75Watt (combo) amp (which wen i went home last week and jacked my gtar into had this awful hissing noise and shit...so it better not be broken...its just over a year old ffs) But will i need a Head/Cab to be able to play live anywhere, especially im thinking anywhere other then a pub...

Is it going to be a requirement that for my band to be able to actually play anywhere other then small pubs and stuff to upgrade amps and equipment to that extent, not something that i am going to be able to afford any time soon but im sure my band will come together properly over the summer and well

I wanna be playing in London with you people in the winter if possible hahahahah

But yea any advice would be brilliant!!

Thanks

well from what i hear some venues provide cabs but u definatly need yer own head, personally i think a good combo with some good pedals will do, look at violators early gigs and they used tiny combos but still had great sound, the venue provide mics, so yeah..by the way what band are you in and do u have any music online or on cd?

We are still forming up but hope to ready to be giggin by winter. Lucky we have access to plenty of free good quality recording , due to university studios ;) , so everything will kick off once people stop being lazy and we find a drummer who actually wants to play drums.

Well i am fine using my combo, i was more worried that they would say we couldnt play if we didnt have a head/cab.

I've got a really shit setup for playing live. I use a Line 6 Spider 2 amp with the 4 pedal footswitch. That's all I have, but it still works somehow.

Cool, well i was worried that clubs would be like "fuck off" cause you dont have equipment. Thats fine then.

I really really wont be able to afford a new amp probs this year anyway (unless mine is actually broken) but i think with a decent mic and its dam loud anyway it will be fine!

You can always hook up a combo to a cab anyway if you don't have a head.

Or get it PA'd.

that depends on the type of venue, if they've got a decent PA rig then your best bet is to just mic up the combo

Simply put - combo for most smaller venues, maybe something bigger for the bigger ones.

... Obviously :p

What "gamabomb" meant was, "2 Full Stacks of Marshall JCM 800s that go to 11, or nothing. Anything else is gay, and so am I".

I'm glad that i can translate.

to start anyways, a pint, a guitar, an overdrive pedal (not required) and whatever amp you can get a hold of or borrow, lol, I wouldn't worry about equipment too much, just get out and play, youl learn what you like:)
