Porcupine Tree
Indeed hello. Today I have just got my first Porcupine Tree album, Deadwing. Heard of them through Opeth, as Steven Wilson was quite involved with them on some wonderous things. So far it sounds pretty amazing. The first song 'Deadwing' was amazing indeed, and 'Arriving Somewhere But Not Here' is bloody unbelievable. Is anyone here Porcupine Tree fans? Could you recommend some further lovelies?

"Lightbulb Sun" is a great album, as is "In Absentia".
"Deadwing" is the heaviest thing they've done though - Steve Wilson seems to get heavier each album. Their old stuff is more ambient and proggy. They also tour fairly often - I've even seem them here in Chicago at a little club called Martyr's. They put on a great show live and are great musicians.
Steve Wilson produces all the Opeth albums nowadays and even appears occasionally on them. They also toured the U.S. together.

I've got In Absentia and a couple of songs from Deadwing - I used to love Sound of Muzak, but I've listened to it too much now
Their songs are just quite relaxing. I normally put it on as background music rather than to actively listen to, if that makes sense...

I've been listening to Deadwing non-stop today (well, not literally non-stop, but you know, basically I've been listening to it a lot), and I think it's full amazingness hit me today. Really unbelievable. Even the songs which sound more mainstream-friendly (Lazarus and Halo for example) still manage to be amazing after you get past that initial fact. But the real gems indeed are Deadwing and Arriving Somewhere... as I mentioned in my first post. Those songs have just got better and better every time I've listened to them. The latter one really is bloody great, it just has such an amazing feeling to it, ultimate loveliness and greatness everywhere. I shall definitely be buying more of their albums! I may choose In Absentia next. It may be fun to work my way backwards through their discography (though I must get their new album when it's out!). Steven Wilson really is a genius indeed. After watching the documentary on the Opeth Lamentations DVD and listening to this album (along with all the other Opeth albums he produced!), I have no doubt that he really is a very great producer indeed. Bloody hell, basically!
