The colourful title, contrary to popular belief, is not about gays. Bass player Geezer Butler wrote this song after being assaulted by a gang of skinheads, who swiftly exited before the rest of the band could come to his aid. Seeing this act as very cowardly, Butler penned the tune, "Fairies Wear Boots". He was high at the time, hence the "smoking and tripping" parts.

Gives it a bit of humour and meaning...

One time my mate was round and he was drunk as fuck. I had Hand of Doom playing and he says, "rewind that part, what did he just say there. Did he say first it was the bomb vietnam the bomb?", and I was like, "no he said Vietnam NAPALM, why would he say bomb twice". I kept rewinding it to prove my point telling him that, although it sounds like he's saying the word bomb, he's just saying it that way to make it rhyme. Bomb/'Napom'...

Quite a magnificent story. Hand of Doom is one of the best pieces of music in the entire world, along with Seventh Son, 10,000 Days, Victim of Changes and Theme of the Empire from FFXII.
