women in thrash music ? any comments will be appreciated!!

Postby cristin on Tue Nov 27, 2007 12:35 am

Im doing a research project on the UK Thrash music scene and was just wondering what people thought about girls who listen to thrash music ?

Do people think because its a male dominated music scene there is a place for girls as fans ?

People might think this is stupid but id really appreciate it if anyone could help !

Thanks :)

I think it is mostly guys who are into Thrash, but any chicks who like it are instantly the hottest girls ever.

I want more girls in thrash. Either as artists or as fans.

Of course there's a bloody place for girls in thrash.

In the kitchen, making thrash pies.

Ho ho.

No, in all seriousness, more girls please. I think it's awesome that there is girls who are into it and stuff, but I think a lot of girls who are into metal are detracted away from thrash because it's about typically boyish stuff - war, zombies, beer... whereas power metal or fucking nightwish or whatever has other appeals. But yeh, come one, come all... social.

I'm really not into sexism or misogyny and I wish that heavy metal as a whole appealed to more women, not just because it would be better having a bigger girl to boy ratio at gigs/parties but because maybe all the idiots in the metal world who treat girls like shit because they think its cool will stop. I don't know, I just think it would be awesome if there were more girls into thrash.

Well there are a few women on here, for a start. Myself included.
It would be good if it were more popular with females, then maybe kerry kings in pits would be more careful.
also maybe men would stop getting over excited to see girls liking the same music. and girls would stop thinking they're some amazing phenomenon and making a big thing out of being the *only* girl who likes it. that's a generalisation though, not everyone is like that.

There's a place for anyone in any music. I don't think anything about 'girls who listen to thrash music.' As long as you are true to yourself and stand up for what you believe in and listen to the music you want to listen to, it doesn't matter what you are. I get just as happy when I meet a girl who likes as thrash as I do when I meet a man who likes Opeth or The Office, it's just that finding out that someone you have met has something in common with you is a nice thing. I suppose many girls are perhaps turned off by what is very aggressive music mainly made by males, but as has been proven, this isn't always true, as we've all met a fair amount of lovely ladies who genuinely like thrash through these here parts. Many things and etc. Goonight.

You're just saying that to impress the (very few) women on this forum! Stop trying to get laid johnny boy, and listen to some thrash!!!

Seriously though, I personally prefer women who listen to metal than those who dont. Not that I wouldn't shag someone just because she listens to the Spice Girls or anything like that, but if she's into metal it's better. It gives you more things to do together; like going to gigs and stuff like that.

I've just started seeing a girl who listens to System of a Down though... Should I dump her for that?!

I think the best thing about women who like thrash is... oh wait, I've lost interest already - get your tits out.

Girls

Postby Phillybomb on Tue Nov 27, 2007 1:26 pm

Yes, more girls please, metal is a total sausagefest.
Mind you, I can totally see how most women can't be bothered with how much of a boys' club the whole deal is - shirtlessness, posturing, shoving about and beardy machismo are standard across the whole genre, and most people don't like that shit, even if they dig the music.
That said, there are plenty of women who like thrash out there and who could possibly say anything other than fair play and blench to that?
I actually saw a US website that sells hot pink bullet belts recently, speaking of gender stereotypes. They're well class.

the track record of female artists in metal isn't good and therefore i'd treat greater female participation with slight caution :P THe death and thrash subgenres are very masculine (not in a OTT hyper macho pantera kind of way but still..) and therefore i think it's hard for female artists to sound convincing in those styles.

I agree with Katze about the girls who think theyre God's gift because they listen to metal. I guess it's only natural when the M/F ration is 10:1 at a gig, but it still makes me cringe when i see a girls myspace page with thousands of band logos and 'i like thrash', 'thraaaaaaaaaaaash', 'thrash 'til death' every other sentence. That said, if i ever meet my dream Death/Cynic/ Atheist girl i'll ask her to marry me instantly

Hahaha, I really enjoyed that for some reason!

My friend made me a Death Birthday cake for my 20th so that was a nice wenchy yet metal thing to do :D

Anyway, yeah I definitely agree with what Katze said, you do get a lot of girls who go to metal gigs and are either really impressed with themselves for being there or just stand at the back all dressed up trying to look pretty and pay more attention to the guys that are eyeballing her rather than watching the band.. that's pretty annoying.

To be fair though, in the same instance I must admit to being one of those annoying bints who has lots of band logos on her myspace page, not that I see anything wrong with that... I do actually listen to said bands... and I think my page looks cool...

:P

I'd also say though that I really dislike it when bands have a female member just as a gimmick if there would be a guy who could play better than her, fair enough if they're genuinely good [gorod drummer, angela gossow - ace vocals, Sabina Classen, jo bench to name a few] and would take a fair bit of competition from anyone, but when they just do it to have a token hot slut in the band to reel in a few fans it really irritates me.

...Possibly very incoherent I'm in a rush!
