With the WHO describing a Swine Flu Pandemic as "imminent", I thought it was fitting to have a thread for UK Thrashers to post if they or people they know, contract the virus.
As some of you know I work for the NHS, although I am not front line with direct patient contact, I do handle hundreds of blood samples a day, so am at a greater risk. We have a Pandemic Flu Action Plan, I am hoping this will be implemented today. I've been away at a Conference this week so may have missed this, but I'll report back after I get home from work tonight on the state of play in an NHS Trust.

We have one at Burton, I was so concerned last year with H5N1 that I asked the Chief Executive directly, exactly what though I'm not sure. Do we have Tamiflu stockpiled? Masks? I do know that if the death rate becomes very high we have a major manual handling problem in the Mortuary and we'll use the gymnasium instead!

Re: The Official Swine Flu Thread
From what I have read, most people will only experience mild flu symptoms if they get it. The folk that will be at risk of death will be the same people who would have been at risk from the normal flu. Think the news are scare mongering to a fair degree on this one, making it sound like we are all going to diiieeessssss!!!!

Yeah, as far as I'm aware, it'll be a bit of illness and nothing more if it's a pandemic.. but it'll probably dent certain parts of the world in..

I work at an Airport as many of you well know, so knowing my luck I'll catch this...
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

It'll probably just be a big hoax like SARS and Bird Flu. That, or it's going to kill us all.

Like those honeymooners who caught it because they brought their cleaner into a three way at their hotel?

BBC News wrote:Britain will see "many, many more cases" of swine flu but most of those affected will recover, the government's chief medical adviser has said.
That's basically a roundabout way of saying people are going to die from it!

I found it really funny when the news last night showed school kids CRYING WITH FEAR and a parent saying she was literally "shaking" with terror... such drama.

You should watch Fox News if at all possible. It's the most wonderfully sensationalist tripe you'll ever see. Most of their headlines are along the lines of:
'IMPENDING DEATH! MAN THE LIFEBOATS!'
