The Almighty

Postby Immortalicide on Wed Apr 18, 2007 5:37 pm

JUst been looking for something in my loft, and found a pile of old CDs i haven't seen for ages (years), including the first three albums by The Almighty!!! Listening to them now and i had forgotten just how good they were!!! Back in the late 80's/ early 90s, i saw them quite a few times, including at the cumbria Rock Festival (in Cockermouth  ), where i met them all at a party they had after the show to celebrate the end of their tour, and saw them all jamming with other bands. Incidentally, i was talking to Blaze Bailey of Wolfsbane, who was there, and he bought me a pint!!! :D .Any one else an Almighty fan??

Saw them a ton of times back in the late 80's/early 90's. They seemed to support loads of bands. They weren't bad - tracks like "Wild And Wonderful" and "Destroyed" were good, if not very reminiscent of a few other bands. The live album "Blood, Fire And Live" is pretty good - I actually listened to it about 6 months ago for the first time in years. Last thing I bought of theirs was "Crank" which if I remember rightly was poor.
Ricky Warwick's (ex)-wife Vanessa was pretty hot back in those days as well. But she couldn't present for shit.

This should bring back some memories for you ... http://www.thealmighty.co.uk/videos/AddictionHIGH.ram

I used to really enjoy The Almighty! They had to be the biggest bandwagon jumpers of the age though, before Robb Flynn got himslef going anway... didn't they end up splitting after some disasterous attempt at Britrock or whatever Kerrang were calling it at the time?

All I've got now is a couple of singles, I'll have to try and hunt down some albums and see if they still hold up to my ears today!

Never actually checked this band out although have considered it a couple of times. Any hints?

Only saw them once at the Edinburgh Playhouse on a really strange bill. It was Megadeth/The Al(Fuckin)Mighty/Alice In Chains on the Rust In Peace tour.

We've got the first album, not listened to it in years though. My wife actually saw them suporting the RAMONES, I missed the gig due to recently being hospitalised and I was convalescing in bed...
