Oh and the scene, thrash has a great scene. Fairly small, but not clique-ish.

Re: What makes thrash...thrash?
hard question
back to the roots
nwobhm and hardcore punk
I consider real thrash is containing those element
even very little
I'm so die hard
those "thrash metal" outside 80'
even they are "thrash metal"
but I dont treat them as thrash metal
just something sounds like thrash metal.....
It's so hard to tell you guys what I feel
so hard.....
I only love 80' Thrash Metal
and I don't really care about other people like/dislike,
understand/dont understand or misunderstood Thrash

it only exist in 80'
when I pick up any thrash records from 80'
they are so real, so Thrash......
and I really dont have interest to listen those retro thrash metal bands,
I don't know why, maybe later, I still got too many 80' records want to get

Jeebus, what a question.
Don't think it's got an answer really, 'cause peoples opinions will always differ vastly on this.
Classic thrash bands should probably just be described as that, even if they did just start up last year.
There's loads of bands I consider thrash that others think of as death.
Heard one guy say that about Testament after Chuck recovered, since his voice was a lot heavier, but I totally disagree.
Oh, and this is my first post. Hello!

Good first post. You seem nice.
HAH!! This works so well! We have a Paul (thrashduck) and he looks like Little Cook from Big Cook, Little Cook, and you're called Big Paul. This is most excellent.

Hahaha! You have to read the whole forum though, its gets very off topic, but not in a bad way.
I think you cant explain thrash to what it is now fully, but you know it when you hear it. When it started out it was easier to pick up on what it was. With the 80s bands you can clearly hear that its thrash.

Re: What makes thrash...thrash?
Aye, but loads of the original 80's thrash bands changed so much in the nineties. Does that mean they're not thrash bands anymore, or does it mean that they have changed thrash as a genre to incorporate more diverse traits..?
Prime example - Flotsam and Jetsam.
It makes my brains go runny.
