Magical 80s Toms

Postby EvileOL on Thu Jan 10, 2008 12:28 pm

Can someone explain to me how these magical 80s toms existed?

A few examples:

Anything off Sepultura's Schizophrenia, or Ripping Corpse by Kreator.

Listen to the toms. They have some kind of magical 80s ring to them, they dont sound like toms, but they do, i dont know.

HOW ARE THEY THAT AWESOME?

Best Toms are on Pestilence's 'Out Of The Body', when the drums come in after the intro riff. Space drums rule.

That album has one of the most crushing guitar sounds ever captured though, and the non-Tom drums sound killer. As do the vocals. And bass.

But them toms..........chortle.

Beat me to it! Seriously Ol, roto-toms sound exactly like that:

You tune them simply by rotating them (which tightens the skin)

I wish I had some roto-toms

haha, I know what you mean. On Inquisition Symphony on the Schizophernia album, there's a big tom roll and it just doesn't sound like toms, but still totally awesome!!

I thought that was due to the mix. Schizophernia is amazing.

Are you sure, Ventor plays Rotos on Ripping corpse??
And if you're not a metal head then you might as well be dead...
