I've been playing for about 8 years now. Completely self taught. The problem is that I'm a total rhythm guitarist. I can't play lead for shit. Are the guitar magazines like Total Guitar worth buying? I bought one a while back but only because it had some free guitar picks with it. I've never even read it! What can I do to start learning how to shred properly? I really need some help with this because for the first time in 8 years, I actually feel like learning something other than thrash...
When you reach the legal drinking age, you lose interest in pretty much everything but drinking.

i dont think i wanna "shred" or anything. Id want solos to be good melodic ones or something that just sounds like a small cool lead line, like a few Mastodon styled harmonies.
