i seem to remember 2 forward flip somersaults during Mutant by you Steve....and you having a swollen eye after the show.
the queue was massive for this event and still stretching right round the worlds end pub well into the gig.i didnt realise Mutant were on at 8 and hadnt even bothered joining the long ass queue.
luckily Dazza was almost about to get in so a quick "thanks for saving my place" tactic was in order.
thankfully i got in just as Mutant started.
what a set! i know i say it every time but this one was extra amazing in ways different than before.
i guess touring+winning unsigned band of the year+hammerfest has really injected a turbo charged confidence boost into Mutant as a unit.
i seemed to nitice each members showmanship was on a high.they all shared an equal amount of limelight.
never before have i seen a drummer in such a zone.Josh was really making himself stand out/noticed,which is quite a feat for any drummer considering they are always at the back/in the background being over shadowed by guitarists.
also he was smacking the shizz out of that drumkit putting 100% into every hit, rather than just steadily keeping a beat like some drummers sometimes do.
Toms banter was on top form, the tongue in cheek execution was comedic and i heard plenty of people laughing even all the way at the back."do you like fast? do you like heavy?....do you like fast AND heavy?" classic Mutant.
also the talking in between songs lasted just perfectly and didnt go on too long/dry up etc.and it was nice to see Sam/Paul adding comments/elaborating to the crowd.
Tom,Sam and Paul were really rocking all over the stage and connecting with the crowd.Tom was even headbanging and going nuts whilst playing.
and sam was doing the "look at me" type solos just inches away from the front row. thats always cooler than a solo being played expressionless and on the spot.
what im tryna say is that there was no sense of anyone just going through the motions or remaining static/stationary throughout.
every member was getting into it to the full and giving 110% throughout.their enjoyment was definitely showing and resonating to the crowd. i could see the band/crowd energy feeding off eachother. the place was rammed and i watched from the top of the steps for a change and was glad i did because its nice to visually see the musicianship and watch a band play once in a while(especially this performance)as opposed to not actually seeing half of the show due to bumping into a mass of bodies the entire set down at the front.(maybe im getting old) it was so rammed in there. possibly one of the busiest underworld gigs ive ever seen.
that was a mad,mad crowd. even chanting Mutant throughout the set(rather than at the end when the band have finished).
there was some diving which was cool but it think the space was limited so that youngster who got in Toms way and nearly caused an equipment disaster couldnt help it,and i agree with John that it was hilarious how Tom handled it.
Tom if youre reading i hope you react like that to me when i defeat you at Bonestorm and take your title

i bought a new Mutant shirt, the design is a lot more detailed and so cool and has more colours.ive been sporting it for the last few days.
i look forward to the 2 new tunes release mentioned during the set.
also cool new tunes by the way.wish i filmed the 2nd tune of the set/rather than the opening of Psycho surgery. but at least i got the cool new intro recorded.
i was gonna post it today but forgot my camera cable/card reader as usual.argh!
itl be on metalperv eventually.
i missed Elimination and Bleeding Oath due to timing.
Evile were solid as always and brutally thrashing.they have come so far. i think Evile and Gama Bomb have done so well in the years ive been going to thrash gigs.its so cool to see them evolve and go on to great things and do huge tours etc.
Mutant are on the verge of this greatness and in the same league in my opinion,so come on guys reach out and grab the opportunity/live the dream/go global etc and keep up the good work.
