Emperor have one of the few logos in black metal that you can actually read easily. Burzum being another.

As a genre, black metal is as diverse as any other, from hyper-speed noise, to etherial, mellow doom, so to say that actually belies the intelligence you actually do posses iain. Its like saying all glam is shit, when it isnt. On a serious note, how much black metal have you heard, and what bands are you basing this sweeping statement on?
I know it is quite often the vocals that people dislike (and obviously the now much ridiculed image), but musically, there are such a wide range of styles that every metal fan would like at least some of it.

Dani Filth is directly responsible for me never wanting to listen to black metal. Saw Cradle of Bollocks (unfortunately) on the Tattoo the Planet tour at the SECC. I had to have my sides stitched back up I laughed so hard.

cradle of filth are a disgrace. Bunch of complete tossers. When ian and me were doing the fanzine, janice issett at MFN offered us an exclusive with them for their upcoming album, and we turned them down

The principle of evil made flesh is a bostin album, but thats it. Everything else is pretty much pants. The best black metal in my opinion isnt the better known stuff, apart from burzum, some dark throne and the debut mayhem lp.
Fili nigrantum infernalium, lux occulta, blood red throne, forgotten woods and masters hammer are all awesome bands that deserve a checking out!!!!

Not sure I'd agree with Blood Red Throne, or at least their present day live sound - I found them to have quite a boring groovy sound in London.

Button your word-hole for a minute, granddad!

I've never listened [not to be confused with heard: see White Men Can't Jump] to Black Metal. I don't think that matters though. Glam was perfectly acceptable in the 1980s; dressing like a killer whale has, however, never been acceptable. Well, apart from at the premier of Orca but let's not dwell on that film. I don't need to have heard any bands to make a sweeping generalisation about Black Metal because everyone who listens to Black Metal condones the burning of churches and is 12 [one for ribbons69, there].

Your comparison with 'Glam' is fundamentally flawed because people misapply the Glam label to bands that would fall more comfortably under the Hair Metal category. I'm sure plenty of people would be annoyed if you lumped Marc Bolan in with Robin Crosby. Me for one: Robin Crosby could actually play guitar for a start.

To cut a long story short: you have to be an angst-ridden teen to like Black Metal. If you like Black Metal, you should try having a brandy and watching Wimbledon to see that life doesn't revolve around gayness.

White men can't jump - Not a bad film, though rendered completely fucking unwatchable by that hideous abomination that is Woody Harrelson. I despise his character, I despise his stupid face, his voice, and him. I'm starting to think he can only play idiots because he himself IS ONE.

You'll find Woody is the greatest person ever.

How can you not love Woodrow Tiberius Boyd?

I can't watch him in anything other than Cheers. My brain can't handle the idea that he's not actually Woodrow Tiberius Boyd.
