Mike Alexander - Donations via UKThrash

Postby Craig on Wed Oct 07, 2009 1:22 pm

After the recent tragic news of the death of Evile bass guitarist Mike Alexander, it has been decided that the UKThrash PayPal account will be open to voluntary donations, to which anyone in the UKThrash community (and beyond) can contribute.

When the time comes, the full amount raised will be forwarded to Mike's family, or to a charity of their choice. Donations can either be made through the donations button on the left of this site, or by sending money via PayPal to paypal@ukthrash.co.uk. If sending directly via PayPal (i.e. not through the "Donate" button on the left), please mark the amount as a gift, as there is a small transaction charge by PayPal which will be skimmed from the amount if it is marked as anything else.

Please post any tribute messages in the tribute thread and any donation-related questions or queries below, or PM either myself or James. I'll be updating this thread with any progress on donations as and when they are appropriate. Please also be aware that even though donations will be addressed to me personally (Craig Watson), they will be going into the UKThrash donations account. I had to register our PayPal account under my own name as UKThrash doesn't exist in any official entity.

I should probably add to this that you don't have to be a UKThrash forum member to donate, so it really is open to anyone and everyone :)

Thanks,
Craig

Edit - 9th October, Small update and thank you
Edit - 6th November, update and fund switch at the end of the month

It was the least we could do, given the level of reaction that there's been. It was originally Raging Paul's idea so really a lot of the thanks must go his way. Thanks must also go to Siobhan from the Evile forums and Street Team for getting the message out via the ST Facebook and MySpace and also the Download forums. If anyone else can spread the word on other forums they visit, it can only be a good thing :)

I'm not going to update here with exact figures (unless people ask of course), as the it's the principle that counts, not necessarily how much is raised (although it would be nice to raise as much as possible) :)

I think that's quite a nice gesture in itself, it would be as a community as a whole giving.

Very humbling in my opinion.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

Just as a quick update, I want to say thank you to everyone who has donated so far. I've been personally astounded and surprised by the level of generosity shown by not only the people here on UKThrash, but also the wider metal community.

I'm not going to mention names, but we have had donations from the US, Holland and Finland, as well as the UK. I won't release figures yet, but there are some very generous and dedicated people out there, and it's a testament to the family spirit and togetherness in heavy metal fans.

The Seregon and HOD raffles will definitely help as well, and again it's a shining example of the community pulling together, it's just a shame that it's under such tragic circumstances.

If anyone can link to this on a forum they visit, it would be appreciated, as every donation helps, however small.

Cheers,
Craig

Had a chat with the Bloodbrawl lads yeterday an decided that once we get the album done, we'll give all the proceeds to Mike's family. No idea when we'll get around to finishing it, since its not exactly the first thing on our minds right now, but I thought I'd let people on here know regardless. Mike has alway been a good friend to us and really supportive of what we've done, so its the absolute least we could do for him.

I have just listed the MAYHEM - VOMIT FROM HELVETE LP number 666 on ebay as a fundraiser for this worthy cause.
find it here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0106507281
hopefully it will make a good few quid for the fund!!

Just to update, I will be moving the donations back to the main UKThrash "kitty" at the end of November, with the amount in the fund at that point being transferred to Mike's family as we said in the first post above.

People can still send their donations for the fund after this point. Just donate to the same account, click on the "Add special instructions to the seller" link and mark the payment for the fund. We'll be keeping track of fund donations, and will hold them until a larger amount can be transferred out to Mike's family.

Personally, I've been totally staggered and humbled by the amount of generosity shown by so many individuals for one cause, and as I've said in my previous update, it's a great show of how much a family community thrash metal (and heavy metal) can be.
