And they make you fund the entire recording process with the prospect of "putting your CD in HMV!!!111" despite not promoting it in the slightest.

An old band of mine got suckered by a similar project. I think it was a rogue company called Chromium Records, we had to pay about £200 to get "signed", which would mean getting a single released, being put on some compilation, and being "promoted". I can't believe how naive we were - nothing happened whatsoever.

A quick note about our view on Casket. We're not tied down as a band in any way to Casket. We're simply using them as a vessel to reap the benefits, of some discounted recording, and manufacturing, and the use of their press department, and distribution through plastichead. We're not in a position to be raped by casket, as its only the album that is 'theirs' and we're not in to make a profit on the release.

Sorry i completely missed my point with that one:
With casket we chose to finance it ourselves, so that way there's no collateral against us on it, and they're now taking a percentage of record sales than they would have been taken if they had funded it, so if all goes tits up on this deal, then no love lost.

I have a cheque from Casket somewhere for 60p. But hell, it's better than the 6p one from MP3.com. Yeah Martin, they get your CD in HMV. Not physically though, not there for all to see. No, you can go into HMV and order it as it's on a list behind the counter. Why? Order it from the band from their website and cut out these middle men, as you obviously know about it already, otherwise how would you know to ask for it? Gone are the days of going into HMV and looking at an Eddie on the cover and going 'cor mum, buy me that'. Waste of time. D.I.Y!
