Should the 'Rare Thrash' thread be blocked?

Postby Atom on Wed Jul 19, 2006 10:08 pm

I was just thinking, maybe we should do what the Exodus forum did and block the 'Rare Thrash' thread in case dickheads sign up just to get some free thrash and never post here?

Maybe have it so you have to have posted a certain number of times until you are able to get into the thread??

What do you think?

Nah, mainly because the Exodus board is PACKED with tossers who won't download anything that's an official release even if it's out of print and costs £43 to buy from eBay.

I use Megaupload which I don't think has a download limit and stays active until the link has been idle for a month so it's not as if people 'leaching' is a big problem. I don't know if this board even has as many as 25 people who use each DL link posted.

I think the site needs all the support it can get and can't really afford to turn away people who use the fact that people upload stuff to their advantage. At the end of the day the decision lies with the people who own/run it though.

I think it might be a good idea to make it slightly more hidden, i.e. make it only viewable by people who are signed in, so that casual visitors dont see it, its not exactly the most legal thing is it...

It works quite well to have a seperate forum for it which is hidden unless your signed in where you post new topics for every upload, that way its easier to see whats available, kind of like the way they do it on http://www.kerrazy-torrents.net although without the torrents obviously (you have to sign upo there to see any of the less legal content)...

To be honest it doesnt bother me if they download without contributing to the forum not like it puts me out anymore.

Doubt the RIAA and the alike will too be bothered that we've be sharing most likely out of print albums and demos, they'll be too busy hunting for a 12yr old which downloaded a beyonce single.

So in summary do what ya like :D

This seems like an interesting idea...

I tell you what, the Exodus board has become a joke since I started viewing it in April 2004.

Someone came to the board and asked about the set list from the Good, Friendly, Violent Fun gig and where he could get the rest of the tracks. I said that there was a vine of it kicking off in the Trade Forum and one of the mods edited my post to say 'Another Forum' instead of 'Trade Forum'.

Pretty pathetic. I hate all this elitist SHITE!

i can understand the argument for it maybe being hidden but then again if i had not met metal iain a couple of years ago the only thrash i would be listening to would be anthrax, slayer, megadeth etc, so if i had not met him then i would rely on threads such as the upload one to hear the rare thrash. Ive had a few swallies so im prob talking dogs baws but i think it should be left open to eberyone, i mean what harm is there in thrash being spread around really when it is hard to get access to apart from the internet. We should be trying to spread the word of thrash as much as possible not hinder it.

The man does have a point..

It's not exactly like these Albums are in mass production, or widely available anyway..

I agree on most of the points for the thread NOT to be blocked but I think should be some restriction to people just registering and downloading and then never posting, know what I mean?
